Hello everyone, i'm starting a 12x12x5" deep rimless acrylic cube, with a center overflow ( peninsula style) with either a 10 gal. or 29 gal. sump/refugium. equipment will consist of a ranco temp. controller, piccolo skimmer ( or bubble magus, still deciding) ebo jager heater,
and a custom led light from rapid led consisting of 9 cree LED's. I started off planning on making it a soft coral tank, i.e zoas, mushrooms, star polyps ect. but upon looking at my local reef store's displays, and other members sps aquariums on here, i just love the look of a tank full of sps colonies ( of course i wouldnt be able to fill it full of sps, but a few nice colonies i think would look really nice) now comes the questions, i plan on doing 2 gallon water changes using H-20 0cean salt mix, do you think i should does 2 part calc. and alk. also? or what else should i dose?

+1, with an environment that small you def have a better chance of drastically altering the chem balance with dosing, id just do the water changes and you ll be fine

thats what i figured, but i thought id ask just to make sure. what are some good hardy sps corals? i know birdsnest, but thats all i can think of

A nice purple or pink stylophora could be good. I have one on the bottom of my tank, off in the corner. It is in one of the lowest lit places and it still thrives. Montipora digitata is also pretty hardy. Mine grows like a weed and is partly shadowed. It is also a deep rich redish orange. Very pretty.

thanks for the suggestions everyone. ill look into all of them, also i just bought a bubble magus 3.5 cone skimmer to replace my piccolo. cant wait till it arrives :D
