Ok, so I have finally removed all fish except my clowns, and female pylei wrasse from my 45 cube. 24x18x24

I already have a female pylei wrasse, and am picking up a male this weekend. I also found another female online, and am wondering if all 3 will be ok in my cube together?

Or should I just keep one male, and one female. I really want the male to color up.

These wrasses and clowns would be it in the tank. Maybe a firefish too...not sure yet.

from my experience, pyleis are very aggressive.

but that's just me. i've never had luck with them.

Yes, very aggressive. Females are worse than males, but both are highly aggressive. So, in a small tank such as yours, it is likely NOT to work.

Hmm, guess I'll stick with one of each. If need be I can catch my female very easily, so I'm not too worried about it if there is fighting.

How long do you recommend to keep the male in a breeder to help reduce aggression?

You will be able to tell. When aggression is going to happen, it happens immediately. The breeder cup allows the new fish to eat and interact without being threatened. I have had the period range from 3 hours to 2 days. In one case, I knew the new comer would be killed and moved it to a different tank. I also moved the aggressor, one of the absolute terrors of fairy wrassedom to a different location.

Excellent info. Thanks a ton. Picking him up late Sunday.

Where do you keep your breeder? Mine is an open top, so it needs to stay near the surface. I just hope to get a good amount of interaction.

My breeder cup has suction cups and a removable top. The best case is NO interaction, that is, disinterest or casual interest.

I see. I need to make a lid for mine. You happen to have a picture? I would rather get the breader at about half way down the tank. Mine is also held with suction cups.

Just wanted to update the thread, and let everyone know that the male is now in the tank (3 days) with the female, and other than some initial squandering, they get along great now. Just hang out and swim together. I am really tempted to get another female, but I fear the two females will fight in my small tank.
