Hi all,

I had a yellow tang for a few weeks. It started to die and had white spots on it, I'm assuming it was ich. I bought another tang and it died 3 days later due to ich. Got a replacement for free, and this one was eating ok, but then today I noticed it has a whole bodyfull of ich. I setup a 10 gallon tank, put cupramine in it and put the tang in it. It died..

I give up on tangs for right now. The manager at petland told me to keep my tank at 84 degrees to fight off ich. Will this realy help? My clwon fish and other fish I've bought from them have been fine, but the tangs never survive. Any ideas?

You will need to remove ALL the fish from the display for 5-6 weeks, then elevate the temp to 84. The higher temp speeds up the lifecycle, so the manager was partly right.

As for the latest tang fatality, how did you go about setting up your QT? Did you test the level of copper prior to introducing the fish.? How long did it appear to have Crypt before you decided to QT it?

As of right now I've just started dosing rid-ich. I don't have anything else in the tang except a engineer goby and a lawnmower blenny which are perfectly fine. I also ordered a UV for the tank and will be running it to hopefully kill the ich also.

Take out all of your fish and put them in QT and treat them for ich. Leave your tank fallow for at least 8 weeks. Going forward. Any new fish you purchase QT them for at least 4 weeks before putting in DT. You can eradicate them for ich before putting them in DT.
