30 gallon Oceanic cube for a bimac

Would this be to small?

I just want a cube tank and the oceanic definately make the nicest. Unfortunately they are small.

according to several sites i've looked at, (since i'm kinda in the same posistion your in), a 30g would be large enough if your looking at just the size, but the bio-load of the octo will be to much for that small of a system, and you also have to take into consideration if they ink and whatnot, so IMO, if you have a really good filter/sump, a 30g might be large enough, but if at all possible, go larger (I know i'm gonna get crap for sayin' that)

Its one of those situations where it is possible to house the animal in that size tank, but the question is it really a good idea?

Octopets even says 30 gallons and up. The animal will fit in there, but you gotta have some monster filtration. But really, this is an animal that likes to explore and enjoy different areas of its territory: one could even argue that 75 gallons isn't enough! This is why most bimac keepers, particularly those that frequent TONMO, strongly recommend at least 50 gallons. A 50 gallon breeder, although not quite a cube, wouldn't cost all that much more than a 30 to set up (if you're setting it up right :), and would probably be better than even a 55 because of its shape.

I wish I could setup a 50g breeder, but with the 360g coming within' a few months, a 29/30g is about the best i'm gonna be able to do, for filtration I was actually thinkin' of runnin' my Eheim 2328 (rated for like, 125g + tanks)

Sry if i'm stealin' your thread

Well I was just watching a program tonight where they were eating live octos wrapped up on chopsticks. I think that being crushed in someones mouth is much less fair to the octo.

I agree, I rather live in an aquarium than be crushed an devoured alive by someone.... Some people on this forum don't realize how good there fish have it...

BTW, I was SO Happy when I heard that that program also said that people have been choked and died when the octo held on for dear life in the man's esophagus!
