30 rimless sps

Are you running a powerhead?

I thought it was kind of high to tell you the truth. But of course I have dual MP10s ripping up a storm so I want space at the top of the tank. (Don't want spillage.) In fact when I downgraded flow in the return pump (upgraded in the pump's quality[Sicce]), the water level dropped almost an inch which made me happy since I will be dialing in a wave with my Apex controlling the MP10s. I've gotten a standing wave with the vortech controllers many times but never the Apex. Just got to figure it out.

Changed out the sediment filter, carbon block and DI resin on my rodi. I think I can go awhile longer on my membrane. My TDS was 30ish, too high. I used my TDS meter on saltwater once and you're not supposed to do that, it damages them. Maybe that's where I'm getting my reading. It should be 0. I will check now that I've changed some cartridges.

Great buy! IMHO RO/DI is the most important piece of equipment to own in this hobby. You have to start with 0 TDS water or you are rolling the dice that you might be introducing some harmful metals to your tank. If you have the DI resin and it is not worn out you will get 0 TDS. Once you start getting 1 or higher on your TDS meter it is time to order some more DI.

It ties with my Apex as my most important piece of equipment. I agree, starting with purified water is VERY important. I was out of ro water a few times and used Culligan drinking water since it was 27 TDS and my well water was 300 TDS. It was my best logical choice but man did the tank suffer. I had a lot of algae on the glass.

I took my TDS meter to work one time when we got a new drinking water machine.. The kind that has one filter cannister on the back and has a hot and cold tab. It was showing 25ppm. But what was impressive is a coworker told me to test her Evian water bottle and that was actually zero.

Your tank is looking good. Have a question for you. I also have a 9004 skimmer. Have you found if you use it to skim the top water also the skimate is very wet? If so any fix.

Yeah that drinking machine bottled water is very low TDS. My parents own a health food store and sell Culligan water through there. I heard they take everthing out of the water and start with what they call DI water to make drinking water. The DI water is 0 TDS and I get it from my mom occasionally now that I know they carry it. They add a little mineral back to the DI water to give it taste and call it drinking water. The great thing is now I can get the DI water cheaper than the drinking water. I just use it occasionally for topoff because my tank is in the break room of the same store and it's convenient.

It doesn't surprise me the Evian water has no minerals, I think it tastes like poo.

Thanks. Good skimmer. To tell you the truth, I like my skimmer effluent on the wet side. From what I've read and what I've experienced, light tea-colored effluent is what you want. You can extract more organics from the water that way because there's more total volume, it's easier to keep tuned in to a particular setting, and you don't have to clean the cup so often because the effluent is watery and not sludge-like.

But if you do want it drier, the only thing I can tell you is to tighten down the blue screw on the air hose more.

Just wanted to give you all a little update on the additives I'm using and livestock.

1 drop per day = Korallen-Zuct Sponge Power

1 drop every other day = Korallen-Zuct Pohl's Coral Vitalizer

5 drops per day= Korallen-Zuct Amino Acid LPS

10 drops per day = Korallen-Zuct Pohl's Extra

5 drops per day = Kent Marine Strontium & Molybdenum

2 drops per day = Kent Marine Iodide

Of the corals and two fish I got from Vivid Aquariums ordered on Jan. 6 the new spotted mandarin is doing fine but the orange spotted blenny jumped the tank. The neon green spongodes montipora is growing like a weed. Some of the polyps on one edge of the green birdsnest look like they've been scraped off and that thing was doing so well, had excellent PE. I suspect the hawkfish perching on it has been damaging it. I think I'll take the hawkfish to a LFS in Kalispell next week. One other sps that had a set back might pull through and all other sps, lps, and fish are doing fine.

Here's some goodies I bot recently: frag plugs, extra-thick BRS frag glue, an extra Apex probe for making
my salinity module more accurate, and a camera bag if I haven't posted it before.

Got another order on the heals of the last one. This is a Coralife Pure-flo pad 200 micron to use as little sheets on top shelf of inTank baskets for mechanical filtration. A Milwaukee ORP probe for the ozone generator. And a Dual In-line TDS Meter for my rodi. My hand held meter is off kilter and in-line is a much better way to monitor TDS anyway.

^My heater got exposed to air and burned up. Now I'm waiting for parts to my ATO, a heater, and new return pump. I lost my cherub angel and two sps frags.

I'm doing W/C's, put my skimmer, backup heater, and a bag of GAC in the display.

Well sad to say this is the end of this thread. I did a file name scramble with my Photobucket photos and lost all the links. From now on I'm not using Photobucket, never liked it much anyway and the ads are a pain. I think I'll go with flickr.

Look for my new build thread coming soon, same build. Thanks for all the posts.
