I would love to help on designing my new 300 gallon overflow and return holes. I am so used to what I have currently that I need someone else with some imagination to make sure I have the best possible config.
Currently, I have a 96"x30"25"tall with overflows on each end. I have a 3000gph return pipe that comes in via sea swirls near the center. I then have a closed loop pvc system (no holes drilled) with an intake about 12" down with a grate on it and 4 3/4" returns with 2 on each side between the overflows and sea swirls.
For my new tank, I want to have a center overflow and at first I thought I would do the returns thru the overflow too, but having second thoughts. I was thinking I would put the two sea swirls farther out and then have (from left to right) - loc0line return, sea swirl, loc-line, overflows, loc line, sea swirl, loc line, with the two ,loc-lines being near the very end of each side.
Is it fairly safe to drill holes for all of those? How far apart do holes need to be from the edge of glass? How far down should the return lines be? What about the drain - where is the best placement for that (maybe I could put it in the overflow box!)
Thanks for your thoughts
