300g stocking and QT

Sort of a twist here on stocking, stocking order, and QT. The new tank isn't ordered yet, but should be soon. Regardless of who makes the tank there's a long lead time before it arrives, so I'd like to get additional QT tanks up and running so I have some fish ready later. I'm NOT yet ready to even set those up, but I'd like to take advantage of the $1 Petco sale right now if a couple extra tanks would help :)

The tank will be ~300g 96x30x24. Due to the length I'm hoping I can get away with some that wouldn't get along otherwise. Here's the "maybe list".

1 - Yellow Tang
1 - Purple Tang
1 - Hippo Tang
1 - Kole Tang
1 - Flame Angel
1 - Royal Gramma
2 - Ocellaris
2 - Firefish (Or three?)
5 - Azure Damsels
1 - Lawnmower blenny, maybe two
1 - Tailspot blenny

The purple tang and kole tang could be an either/or and not both. I hope the rest would work though. I've NEVER had a firefish, so even with lots of space not sure if it will work.

Otherwise, in the end I planed to usually use TTM quarantine with 2 10 gallon tanks, and once moved to observation a 29 tall. Simply because the 10 gallons fit on our master bath counters and the 29 in a laundry room counter :) However, while waiting on the new tank build we will have lots of time so I'm thinking a more traditional QT and I can get away with an additional three ten gallon tanks. I obviously can't keep tangs in QT forever, or add to the DT once ready too fast either though.

Soooo, what stocking order would you use, and how many QT tanks? Again, this isn't for routine additions. This is QT in advance, then wife rules would apply on future additions, lol.

Much more fun even thinking about it though, compared to thinking 120g only a week ago :) Good thing my wife likes the hobby as well, lol.

People will say dont mix the tangs because they will fight. They will be fine, I have a yellow, two purples, scopus, and desjardini along with a clown tang, regal and naso in my 300. They chase each other here and there but thats it.

DO NOT GET DAMSELS they all get big and ugly and mean as hell.

Lawnmowers will fight, only get one.

Firefish tend to be like chromis in my experience, and fight till only one or two is left. Ive tried a group of 10 twice, Im down to 4 again.

Size of your QT is based on how big the fish you are getting is and how long it will be in QT. There is a ton of info on QTing stuff here which will be a good read for you. I usually just do 2 weeks of observation and medicate if needed. Others medicate everything for a month. Also depends how much you trust your LFS.

Id suggest adding all the tangs at once, but sometimes thats not possible. Many suggest adding fish slowly but in these cases its better to add them in a group and do some extra water changes while the bacteria load catches up.

LOL, I had good luck with damsels through the years, until a yellow damsel in my last 200g that tried to kill everything (including my arm) and took 3 months to catch. However, I do like damsels and seems the yellow tails are the most docile and azures even more so. Never had an azure though, and certainly don't want a three months battle. If added last, and 8 feet of space, hoped they would work, unless someone has Azure horror stories.

For tangs I've only had two, a yellow and a hippo, in my 200g. I don't want to push it but those two would be a must.

You also have a 300g though, so apparently space doesn't help much on the firefish either :(

I've kept 6 firefish in a 90 before without any issues ... But as for the tangs I'd add the hippo and Koke together and the purple and yellow together and imo you could get 2-3 more tangs in a 300

Thanks all!! Just PLANNING this is resulting in constant changes of one thing, when another thing changes. Not to mention all the 2 AM random wake ups with a sudden "What if I....", lol.

I like the plan Shiv on the tang additions when the time comes. Otherwise, pie in the sky plans of having some fish through QT just in time have been shelved. I'm up to two 10 gallon tanks and one 29 tall all ready to use for QT and still collecting more, but going to use them to get some TBS rock through a 72 day fallow period to seed whatever I build with dry rock in the DT first. THEN worry about fish. I've always had good luck using QT for fish and risked just adding other things, but on this one I think I'm going to try for 100%, so the rock isn't going right into the display. I won't be chasing a a nasty hitch-hiker back and forth in an 8 foot tank then either :)
