Ive been looking through and found a 34 g tank in my price range and was wondering if it would be suitable to have a single dwarf lion fish in there? anything would help.

I've had many people tell me yes but it would be a tight fit .... I've also had people tell me it would not work. I need more opinions ha.

Plus I just went and re read frank marini's article on lion fish ........ Minimum tank size-30 gallons ..... Just thought I put that out for discussion.

A little tight, but doable, altho a fu would definitely be OK. You'd need to plan your aquascaping around the lion. Balance the amount/arrangement of LR with the need for for open space while giving the fish a perch/cave or two.

So you think it's okay just not what it could be? And I don't think I will be getting a fu just because I've heard that they are hard to wean and just take care of in general. Also where would you put the lr because I was thinking of a "mountain" a in the middle or would u just put it against the back? One more thing..... Have you heard or know anyone who has heard of this tank and has some advice on the tank?

I know a couple of peeps who are keeping SH in them, and they like the tanks really well, altho they need to be chilled for SH.

I guess it kind of depends on what you have in terms of LR. We tend to pick shapes based on each project rather than buying a box of LR sight unseen. If you do a pinnacle-type arrangement, it will need to narrow down fairly quickly to give the fish some room, and not make it too high so the fish has at least some of the full 20 x 20 to swim in.

I just laid out 20" on my desk, and you'll have your work cut out for you in the 'scaping dept.

yea i just did too , petco is having a 1$/per gallon sale ....... i would need some serious help on finding filtration and what ever else.

Well i went to petco and i believe that im going to get a 55g tank, with a API Nexx filter, im not sure on the lights , an aqueon circulation pump i dont know how many, aqueon heater, stand im not sure on, and that's what i can remember off the top of my head

A 55 gal will make a super dwarf tank...in fact, you can mix species or go with a M-F-F trio of fuzzies or D. barberi. I think a fuzzy tank with each color morph (brown, red, and yellow) would be a cool setup.

Which species would you mix in the 55g i was looking towards a zebra and maybe a fuzzie or two. would that work or would they fight or pick on eachother?

That should work out fine...in fact, a couple of peeps here have kept a zebra, a fuzzy, and a fu in the same setup.

Hmm I will look into that.......would you recommend a fu for a newbie because that setup would be awesome . Also would I need a skimmer?
