340 A.G.E. Tank Build!!!!!

Eddy,

What kinda of vinyl did you do, curious if you wouldnt mind explaining some about how you did it.

The vinyl I got from a place here in town called 24/7 graphix. It is just 9 mil vinyl from 3M. They were very very reasonable on it. I just had it cut 4 inches too big on all sides, and there you go.

The application is really simple, they give you a Teflon scrap, or "applicator" as the call it. You just take a spray bottle with a couple of drops of dish washing liquid in it. Spray the tank with the soapy water, then peel the masking off the vinyl, then apply. Its a slow process, but rewarding since you don't have to paint it.

one it is easily drill-able, two, it is stronger than glass, can take more flexing. Since the main stress of a tank is on the bottom anyways. three, is weight. If the bottom panel was 1.5 inch think glass, the tank would be a "TANK"...bulletproof, not to mention weigh a ton

Ok, well its been a while since i have updated. Been busy building huge coral systems for a friend of mine :) (he will remain nameless)

I have started the pluming, and hope to finish soon. The main return pump is a dart, the yellow pump is a panworld 250 that will supply water to the mangrove lagoon, the skimmer, and the refuge. I have one more pump to add, the closed loop pump. I originally planned 2 barracudas for circulation, but decided I don't have the room for them under the tank. So my solution was to modify two HUGE irrigation control valves and have them on a Reeflo Hammerhead pump. I tested out the valves yesterday and they work great, not metal components, all is well.

Here is how far I am so far.

Thanks, i forgot the mention, the different color valves do have a purpose. They are color coded, so yellow would be the sump return line, black is drain to sump from tank, and red is skimmer, and so on. Not a big deal, just decided since its gonna look like pans labyrinth down there that this would help.

Mainly it is for my wife, so when she calls and needs to turn a valve off i can say "the black one"

For those of your wondering about the irrigation valves here is a pic of one of them, god they are big.

I love the color coded move.

Now, get back to work.... :)

I know right, I need to order some hayward bulkheads, then I can really get to work

alright....what else you done now..lol..

and thanks for the skimmer again...works great..

Justin, you are welcome, I am glad its doing great for you.

Sadly enough, I havent done anything lately. Getting ready for the CRASE. After the CRASE we will get to work. Gotta pickup the skimmer from Reeflo, a hammerhead pump and order the lights. After that, things are going to get interesting.

More to come, I promise

i noticed you run halides and acintics? what i st he benifit in that...wondering all i have is halides and not useing acintics and have great groth and color?

I will have halides on this tank, 3 MH and 6 T-5's

I have done it without actinic, and everything did great.

That just boils down to finding something that works FOR YOU, and going with it. There are so many light options out there, there is a huge margin between right and wrong. Dont worry justin, your tank is doing fine, now its time to enjoy it!
