350 Gallon In Wall Reef Build

Is that stand 2x6 on the top frame and doubled 2x4 legs and bottom? Are the only on the top of the bottom frame? I'm asking because I'm basically building the same thing!

Why did you put the sump under the tank if you have a fish room? I would want my sump in the fish room for sure. also then you could have it so the tank made no noise. With those drains you will have quite a bit a noise from them. (I ran a tank like that) you have all that fish room room what are you going to be using it for?

@Reel North, Yep, doubled up 2x6's on top and 2x4's on the bottom. I glued and screwed them for a little extra strength.

@cleverbs, There isn't much space in the fish room. It's 6 ft wide by 10ft long and the tank is 3 ft wide by 8ft long. The sump had to go under. There will be no noise outside of the fish room once the walls are closed in with wall board. The fish room will contain two water change tanks and the top off tanks. I might put a frag tank and a QT tank in the utility room

I didn't take too many pictures of the move because I was so busy. But here are some of the tank before scaping and adding in the sand. I'll get an FTS once the water clears.

Here's a shot of the sump with corner and bottom bracing. Unfortunately, the triangular pieces of acrylic I ordered to stick in these corners was isosceles and not right, so I had to cut them in half on my table saw. I guess I should read product descriptions before placing orders... Regardless, this fix worked and it made the tank extra sturdy giving me a little more peace of mind.

Here's a picture of the 6hr ordeal of emptying the old tank and transferring everything. The coral rocks were spread across two 70 gallon rubbermaid tubs and two 25 gallon rubbermaid tubs. All of the coral free base rock went into one of the 60 gallon water change jugs you see pictured here.

Shot of my Moorish idol swimming across the scaped tank. I forgot to take an FTS before adding the sand to the sump so I'll have to wait to get one of those. I'm pretty happy with the result though!

So we finally started finishing the basement. I was able to frame out the tank last week, put up a moisture barrier to seal off the fish room, and get all of the wall board up. Not too bad for a week of work. Oh, and we also hung all of the wall board in the rest of the 1600sqr/ft of the basement! Paint, tile and trim should be done in a few weeks. Pretty excited to get this space finished

Great job! It would be a good idea to keep the tank and fishroom sealed off and vented separately while the glue and paint cures.

Great build so far. Love the dimensions of the tank, which I had gone longer. I have a 72 by 42 by 28 350G. Also love the aquascape, plenty of room for the fish and for coral growth, well done. Andrew

@Andrew, and I wish mine was taller. I wanted a 30" but that was almost double. I'm really happy with how this has turned out so far.

Going great so far :)

We have the same Skimmer ;)

Replaced a DCS300 I dropped on the floor after the pump burned out... now residing in our frag tank...

That reef octopus is a great skimmer. I think it might be my favorite upgrade. The quiet drivers for the vortechs is pretty high on my list too. The MP60's went from being super loud to silent. I definitely recommend the driver upgrade if you have an older set of Vortechs.

Mudded and painted. Turned the skimmer off and sealed the doors for that fun...

Now need to get the tile floor installed and add the trim to hide the canopy door.

Sorry for the lack of updates. Lights are off now so I'll have to wait until tomorrow for some fresh pictures but here's an FTS. and a Panorama from a few days after the basement was finished. Furniture has changed quite a bit since then.
