Hey guys just wanted to share how much I like the new Lumia 5.2 LEDs.
I used to have a pair of the evolution LED lights and decided to try my own diy.

I went with a Storm X controller and 36" Makersled heat sink. I was going to go with 48" to match my tank but decided to go smaller since I may be downsizing, haven't decided yet.

Anyways picture time.
Here is just a test setup before I tidied up a bit.

Assembling for real.

This hanging setup worked GREAT. Easier to hang by myself than anything else Iv'e done.

Here is a before and after.
Evolution LED
<a href="http://s446.photobucket.com/user/Hellssephiroth/media/IMG_0613_zpscc84b331.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i446.photobucket.com/albums/qq185/Hellssephiroth/IMG_0613_zpscc84b331.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_0613_zpscc84b331.jpg"/></a>

DIY at about 40%
<a href="http://s446.photobucket.com/user/Hellssephiroth/media/IMG_0664_zps971c9a14.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i446.photobucket.com/albums/qq185/Hellssephiroth/IMG_0664_zps971c9a14.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_0664_zps971c9a14.jpg"/></a>

DIY at 100% ...... Its a little extreme lol :smokin: I know its way brighter than the 250w MH i used to have on my tank. It pretty much lights up my whole living room.
<a href="http://s446.photobucket.com/user/Hellssephiroth/media/IMG_0661_zps3e30d572.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i446.photobucket.com/albums/qq185/Hellssephiroth/IMG_0661_zps3e30d572.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_0661_zps3e30d572.jpg"/></a>

I chose not to run with lenses although they are available since I figured being 12" shorter than the tank it would spread a little better.

Feel free to ask questions if you want I know I didn't go into detail.

Oh and don't mind the dirty tank

I'm using 2 of the 5.2 Lumias on my 48" 120. I'm running mine at peak at 80% and have great growth of SPS even on my sandbed. I've been running them since April and really like them, and I'm sure you will too. What are you running yours at peak? I considered going with 3 since I have a small shadowed area on each side of my tank but I've found that I can move my corals requiring lower light to these areas.

I have it at about 40% right now.... ill see how everything likes it before turning it up. Its already a lot brighter than my old lights so better safe than sorry.

Nice job I have been looking at doing one of those too:) May I ask why you installed the drivers on the bottom side in lieu of on top or off the light altogether like in a box?
Thanks,

Sure :) ..... it was easier lol. I would have done a box if i had some better tools to work with. My drill press went out and i didnt want to be sloppy drilling any more holes than I had to by hand. If i see that they are getting too warm for my likeing i will probably have to move them but they didnt seem too bad.

500w 10.4a 48v meanwell. I have roughly 700 into it. It gets a little warm but it has a fan built in so it stays cool. I would say about the same as a computer psu temp wise

So one set of drivers will run two multichips?

I'm thinking about putting two 5.2's into my ATI Powermodule and I'm putting together a parts list on what all I'll need to order.

I just wanted to throw out an update. So far i have seen very nice growth with these leds. Coraline has taken off like wildfire i notice more than anything. I have had to aclimate everything, i noticed even at 40% originally i was melting a bunch of my softies. I started low and i am back to 40% again. I would say that as far as i can tell everything seems to have doubled in size already. I might have to think about fragging for the first time ever.

I really do like what you've done on this light, unfortunately I'm not the electrician but have some skills love to have some how to information also where did you source all the parts? One supplier or ? Look'in good!

If I recall most of it other than some connectors that aren't really necessary came from led group buy. I am actually debating building a nano tank and throwing one of these over it for the wife. I have been pondering the idea of a 10-15 gallon drop off tank. The have a few good instructional pages right on the site. I ended up using them for the most part.

Ok, so I have some updates after about a year from my last post. Still Loving the light. Super growth on a few things. I run it at about 35% power and I haven't felt the need to increase it with softies.

The devil spawn has dropped seedlings about 10 times now.... maybe more. The little one to the right of the picture is about 5 times the size it was when it fell off about 2 weeks ago.

The toadstool at the top I bought about 6 months ago at a frag swap. It was only about the size of a nickel when I picked him up. Now he is about the size of a basketball.

The coralline is out of control on this thing now. I have to razor it off the front glass constantly.

Anyway, on to the pics.

I am cataloging my DIY build in our local reef club forum....

Its a 6x Lumia 5.2 with O2Surplus 6up PCBs on 72" Makers Heatsink and Bluefish Mini controller. I dont have a my tank up yet, but I love this thing already!

My build

Nice! Ya, I am a big fan of these leds. I've been getting great results with them.

I am a bit surprised they aren't more popular.

They seem like they are at least as good or better than a kessil 360we at only 70w and even more customizable.

Hey Horace!

How are you liking your light? I just had my meanwell self destruct so I am overnighting another one :( Capacitor in it literally exploded. It must have done enough damage that just replacing it didn't fix it. Oh well I guess it happens.

The growth on this thing has just been amazing! I have a ecotech g3 on my nano and I really don't like it compared to my diy. I might make a small one with one led just for my nano. Maybe 2 for overkill/why not.
