after the holidays im gonna do a custom 36X36X16(possibly 48in dont tell my wife) never had a tank this size, its gonna be a reef. i was thinking a group of either banngai or threadfin cardinals, watchman goby (already have), and one nice show fish, dunno yet. any ideas out there?

I would stick to a pair of Cardinals. I've tried groups in larger tanks, they pair up and kill the others lol.

Threadfins would do much better, as would chalk bass.

Nice show fish.... hmmm. How about a Pair of Long Nosed butterfly, or trio of flame angels?

Edit: Get a good long look at Bangai's also before you decide to buy. They really don't do much of anything lol. Kind of hover around and just hang out in 1 general area most of the time.

maybe the threadfins then , how many is good for a group, no on the angels and butterflies nothing that might pick on coral

They are easy fish to keep. 5 of them would do well, but any amount of them will coexist just fine.

Long Nosed Butterflies also don't pick on coral. Read up on them.

im def gonna go with the threadfins between 5-10 and 1 posibly 2 of the following
yellow,purple,or powder blue tangs
swallowtail angel
possibly either a copperband or long nose butterfly
maybe a blue spot jawfish
blue throat or pink tail triggers
any suggestions or things to look out for

I don't have direct experience but I recently saw a video that should be standard viewing material for anyone think of getting certain tangshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ij_PITzx7MM. This is obviously not an apples to apples comparison to normal tanks, and a 48x48 may be fine for a PBT, but what stood out to me was the size of certain species in his tank.:eek2:

yes that tank is in the atlantis aquarium in long island i think its one of the biggest reef tanks in the world. its a little different in a 100 gallon tank, i dont want to stunt a fish but they are gonna grow differently in different environments.
