38 Gallon Tall with Pics

Wow. I just checked and the clamp is fine, it is just the screw that has rusted. So called "stainless steel" huh? I'll get it off as soon as I can.

Got plastic clamps this week from Lowes. Going to put them on on tomorrow or Saturday. I also took out all the bioballs and I am going to fill the filter up with water soon. I also received my order from Petsolutions and got new moonlights since the old ones conked out. I think I am going to get seahorses from NY Seahorse(good prices, captive-bred, tank-raised, eating mysis, only have heard good things about them) maybe mid-May if they are still available and if I still have money. I think that I am going to start out with two(either two females or a male and a female) and eventually get 4 altogether in the tank. I think that I am going to concentrate on corals and macros for the next few weeks. I'll post pics when the tank looks better.

The other thing that I have to decide is if I want peppermint shrimp or feather dusters. I really like feather dusters and planned to put many in this tank, but I also like peps and wanted some other scavenger. Its a tough decision, but I think that I am going to go ahead with the plan and get feather dusters.

i think somewhere i saw that feather dusters were dangerous? hmm not sure now wish i remembered. Sorry if im just adding to your confusion ahah.

Feather dusters aren't dangerous to horses or anything else for that matter. They are harmless filter feeders and they are really cool. There have been many reports that pep shrimps eat feather dusters so I didnt want to risk it.

A few questions:

Am I ready for horses? I know I need more hitches but I'm waiting to get caulerpa prolifera and other plants from FloridaPets when its available. I will probably be getting more gorgs soon too(maybe 2-3 more). I might add some fake hitches like plastic plants to begin with.

What sexes of horses should I start out with? I think that I am going to start with two seahorses at first, and then eventually get 2 more for a total of 4. I kinda had a plan to breed them, but I dont think that I am ready to take on that task yet. Should I start out with females first and then get two males later on?

I will probably be posting some more pics of the updated tank tonight or tomorrow after I clean it a little bit. Thank you in advance for any help.

Nighttime Pic. Its blurry but you get the picture.

make sure that you get the males & females from different pet stores because if they breed (and they eventually will) it cant be good if they are related:rollface:

So far there haven't been any problems shown from brothers and sisters breeding in first and second generation, and you are going to have far more trouble if you try to put seahorses from two different sources in your aquarium. If you were concerned, you could ask your aquaculture facility if they can try to send you unrelated pairs, sometimes they can, but it shouldn't be a problem even if they can't guarantee it.

can someone please tell me how to make a reef tank....i haven't figured it out yet..there is a 50 gallon tank at my house, and i want to turn it into a reef tank and put seahorses in it..i need help........i have the tank ,sump, correct pipes and stuff, and everything else i need....i just want to turn it into a reef tank before i get seahorses. can someone tell me which corals are harmless to seahorses and post pictures of them PLEASE. did their baby seaponies live without any genetic problems:confused:

ps> can you help me construct a coral reef tank with some coral names(and pics)that are harmless to seahorses:rolleyes:

Yes they lived without genetic problems.

Pokehero93, Rather than hijacking other people's threads to ask for advice on how to set up a tank, why don't you create your own thread. Also, doing some research on your own would help. I doubt many people are going to go search for pictures of seahorse safe corals for you. Here is a list of seahorse safe tankmates, including corals. You'll have to scroll down to find the coral, but please read the whole article to get and understanding of what is being said as far as safety is concerned. http://www.seahorse.org/library/articles/tankmates.shtml Read through the library on seahorse.org and get an idea of what it takes to care for seahorses, and buy a book on reefkeeping like The Conscientious Marine Aquarist by Robert Fenner http://www.amazon.com/Conscientious-Marine-Aquarist-Commonsense-Successful/dp/1890087025 and read through that, and then come back with more specific questions so that we can help you better.

I'm going to get both the male and the female from the same source. PokeHero, I looked around seahorse.org's library for most of my information. It helps a lot. And take you time with researching and don't rush into anything.

Thanx for the websites>they are very informative

I'm not sure. It may be this week/next week because my birthday is coming up and that could be one of my presents, but I'm kinda scared to spend all of that money, like $125, with the risk of having it die in a few days.

I rearranged some things today and will post pics of the tank when it clears. I have been testing this tank twice a week since I set it up and everything has been perfect. The temperature starts stays 73-74 degrees all day and night. This week may be the big week that I get 2 erectus. I'm excited, but very nervous too.
