I was reading your other thread on your 54 gallon, and had some questions about your cardinal fish. I live near you, and am a member of WAMAS too. Which LFS did you get the cardinals from? I was thinking about getting 5 of them for my 65 gallon, but didn't know which local store would carry them. Also, I have heard that they are very delicate--did you notice this? Can you tell me about your experience with them?

Going back in time a little:
10' long face frame:
You can see the doors behind the frame (I cheated, thanks IKEA!)
I painted the frame black, put the lower cabinets on and made the top frame:

tanya i suggest making what dandy did and simply using strong magnets or industrial velcro to mount the "frame/skin" to the stand. you get doors but the whole unit can be popped off to do work.

The velcro would not work at all since it would wind up falling off I have it happining to my tunze controller all the time and its light and I dont mess with it. As for the magnets I am gonna do that but I also thought about feeding time. The lenght of the canopy and stand is 57" so I would have to take it off multipule times a day to feed which I know will get real old quick.

Tanya, your situation sounds similar to mine. My fridge is also to the left of my tank, and I have a steel stand. What we did was screw some metal "brackets" into the stand, and we hung the panels. It'll make more sense when u see my pics.
After giving this a try for a few months, I found it to be inconvenient because I was going into my stand much more often that I thought. I recently put hinges on my panels
