38gal stocking questions...

I'm currently cycling a fish only with live rock tank. It has about 40lbs of live rock, already cured. With around a 4inch deep sand bed. I'm throwing around stocking ideas and I'm curious if I can get input from someone experienced.

2x perc clowns
1x either a fairy wrasse maybe a Melanurus but I think it will get too big right?
If not a fairy a dwarf pigmy cherub angel
1x Pearly or blue spotted jaw fish

Are those compatible and also acceptable for stocking limitations? (Canister filter with uv light and hbo skimmer )

Quick questions for all, what is considered the proper temp then for a bsjf? What about a wolf jawfish? Is it hard to find a pair? All fairy wrasses are too active for that size tank? Melanurus is too active also? Do cherubs acclimate better to captive feeding then other dwarf angels? They don't mysterious die off like some other dwarves?

All the other dwarfs are to small for your tank, with the exception of one.

I personally think you would want to have a larger tank for fairy wrasse.

Never heard of about wolf jawfish,so I couldn't comment..Do they have another name? :)

I don't know much about them on the top of my head. What I do know is they need multiple feelings everyday and a deep sand bed.Another member should be able to give you some proper information :)

BSJ need a temp of 74. I think 4 - 5 inches of sand should be ok. Make sure to get some rubble for it to make a burrow.

Ideally I would add the jawfish first so it can get established & a house made without having to worry about anyone else in the tank. They seem to be more settled that way.

70-74F with a preference for the lower side. Remember they are collected in the Sea of Cortez where temperatures are on the lower side.

A smaller one like this should be ok. Liveaquaria DD recommends 30 gals. Of course the problem with all-in-one tanks is that filtration chamber takes away 4 inches of depth from the main display so that could be a problem. Otherwise some flashers and fairy wrasses can work.

Although LA may state a flasher would be fine in a 30g tank, my own experiences have shown they thrive in a tank a tank a little larger to do OK, and to get the full flash effect and best displays a 4ft tank or larger is best. Wrasses that would do well in that sir are a little more secretive, such as the pink streak or wetmorellas.
