I would be interested at test fill to see how much the bowing is before bracing. How thick is the glass going to be? How was the rubberized it to work with? Great livestock collection you've got ready for the tank once it's up!

Thanks for the reply Muttley, I will decide when I have the glass installed. The glass is .5" star fire and the owner of the glass company said it could be used as a backboard for basketball, just not to chip the corner. The livestock I have has been it there about a year for some and the Acro's on the Pvc have been in there about a month, I can see growth on them and the one on top is getting blue tips.

Muttley sorry I forgot your question about the rubberizeit, I used cheap paint brushes for the seams and rollers for the rest I also used cloth layment on all the seams. It went on easy did'nt have to use a mask but you do need gloves. I ordered 5 gallons and after six heavy coats I still have not used half of the bucket and I ordered 300 feet of the cloth and have used maybe 35 feet so far. If I remember right it was around 300.00 for everything plus shipping. It goes on wet and will run as you can attest to my pictures but once dry it is on there. Now when it dries it will still be sticky to the touch. It will go on brown when wet but turns black when dry. Then I am going to paint with sweet water black epoxy when completely done with the overflow.

Nice detailed pics in the liquid rubber, thanks. That skimmer is a beast!
Your Welcome I will be posting some more pics tomorrow. Yes this skimmer is a beast, much larger then the pics I first saw when I decided to buy this one. Can't wait to fire it up but that wont be until I get the new build finished.

I'm curious, not to questions your work but you think 3/4" birch will hold all that weight? How did you go about attaching it? Predrill then 1 1/4 screws? Use any dowell rods? I seen it looks like you used kregg jig for some of it. Nice work, I just dont think its enough to hold that weight without bowing.

I would frame a 2x4 stud wall on the backside of that tank and any side for that matter to hold any of that wood from bowing.

Hi Reefski thanks for looking. I used 3" wood screws with domonioes
IMG_1316_zps99e0b173.jpg
[/IMG] now the two sides i had to cut all the way through to get the dominoes in and then I had to use a rubber mallet to drive them in. I will have the back wall of the aquarium all the way against the basement wall so I should not have any deflection there, I just checked the sides and without any glass they are solid. The front I may have a problem there, but until I get the glass in I cant put any cross bracing across the top. My biggest worry is if I did a good job of applying liquid rubber in all the over flow slots.

back to applying liquid rubber and cloth to the overflow

applying more cloth in the corners. I set the cloth in the corner then used the brush to push it in tight then worked my way out to the edges to remove any gaps.
