3D tank shot

I guess its a bit of a gimmick but I love the 3D effect these images create.

To see the effect you need to view the pair of images from about a foot away and flat to the screen. First, go cross-eyed until you see 3 images. Now, keeping three images, pick out a detail on the middle image. It takes a bit of practice but if successful you should see the effect. You will know when you have! I suppose this could cause headaches, eye problems etc but I haven't experienced this myself (yet). I take no responsibility! I've shopped this image slightly to create a HDR effect also... the result is as accurate to life as I could make it.

That's awesome! It would be way cooler with bigger pictures. But it might not fit on some people's monitors.

thanks - yeah I tried to keep it to about 800 wide. Might try a version focusing on the tank contents but the format would be even wider. Glad someone can see it though!

That reminds me... I'm due for an eye doctor appointment.

I finally got it, but am on the verge of a headache. I've always been able to see the opposite of these, when you're focusing on something further away rather than closer. That's how I started this. I took your photo into Photoshop, flipped the two images and was able to see them. Then I played around with the tutorial for a while.

Now... I can see it. :) Ugh.

thanks - I tried them the other way around but the effect is far more pronounced with them as they are above.

FWIW, the first time I tried viewing images like this it did give me a headache but since then it hasn't. Its really easy to do it once you've learned the technique.

I've done a few individual coral colony shots too.. aim to post these soon.

tank is coming on nicely too - the right hand structure has been moved from my old 30 (UK) gal tank (which won 'Tank of the Year' on ReefsUK back in 2006 incidentally!:) :rolleye1:

The new structure on the left needs some work - will ultimately be site for sps and clams and maybe linked to other structure by a piece of arched branch rock.

There are 4 fish in the tank at the moment.. a green clown goby, orchid dottyback, sulphur watchman goby and wheelers watchman goby. I traded the other 5 fish that used to be in the 30gal back to the LFS recently (flame angel, azure demoiselle, pair of clowns and red sea mimic blenny). Will be replacing these with new species compatible with LPS and clams etc over coming months.

Substrate to be added soon and halides to be lowered by a few inches over coming weeks.

You have just opened up a new way to post photos, very cool.

Now I need to go take some advil for the headache you caused me, JK : )

That last one was WAY harder clippo. I barley got it. It actually made my head hurt a little. Fun stuff.

Damn, I get so close, but yet I'm so far... for example in the last shots I think I get your leather coral in the middle, but then my eyes refocus and it's gone. I'll take others' words that this is nice work, none-the-less. ;)

My grandparents have those old fashioned 3d viewer glasses that would make these pop out nice.

cheers Lee - you'll know once you have 'got it' folks. Your eyes kind of lock-on and the strain goes away.. a bit.

Best try some simple training images first as in the link above.

Wohoo! that's neat! anyone that cant do it read this:

Absolutely! Thank you! I took well over 15 minutes last night of aggrivation to no avail here with these images. Follow the instructions on this site, and for some reason, the images on that site were a lot easier to practice with for me, and I had a relatively easily getting the effect to happen the first time.

Then I came back here, and after about 30 seconds I was finally able to capture all three photos in 3D.

FWIW, this one of the girl pointing at you was the one that I was first successful with. I realized I was crossing my eyes too hard, just a gentle eye crossing is what you need to get a center image, then slowly and 'gently' focus the center image... without uncrossing your eyes. Hard to explain, but as mentioned once you get it the first time, you got it.

K, I'll shut up now. Very cool shots, thanks :D

that is cool. I wasn't sure what I was looking for at first, but after my head feeling like it was going to bust, it just came into "focus". very neat.
