I have noticed there is a lot of advice to keep my alk lower like around 3.2meq/l. The only problem is my salt mixes up to 4.0 about everytime @ sg of 1.025. Im using reefcrystals. What is everyones opinion on this?

Thanks.

You should be fine with that amount of alk.
Its really nothing to worry about.

High alk is very important when you Ca takes a dive.
But, you dont want to go too high on the alk.

Thanks guys!

4.0 it is then.

Also quick question just so I am clear if I am keeping my alk at 4.0meq/l then balanced CA would be 440ppm?

Thanks!

BTW,

Sunny your avatar is great. I love all the speghetti westerns clint was in. Although the Good, the bad and the ugly is my fav. Mainly because Eli Walac (spelling) steels the show.

Wonder have you ever seen the other Sergio leone speghetti westerns like "My name is nobody?" If you havent, go get it.

I'd like to see more people chime in with their Alk Number. I blame all the problems I have, losing frags here or there, on Alk changes. I've thought lately, why not keep your alk near where your Salt Mix comes in at.
Instant Ocean mixes up to around 11.5 @ 1.025, but I keep my alk below 9. Doesnt make much sense.
Then again, I've lost faith in Saliferts Alk Tests. I've got two kits right now, one of them will say 9.0, the other says about 10.8 consistently. I think that had something to do with losing a frag recently.
