Like the title says.........Trying to figure out why I need to do a water change so said....Screw it.... lets see what happens!!! Tank is great will upload some pics of 4 months and just ATO RODI water, with Kalk mixer, no skimmer, suplements, UV sterilizer....:bounce1:

I went 6 weeks without a change and only did so because... well I don't know why. I run a 40g with a 29g sump/fuge, carbon, skimmer, HOB filled with LR rubble. DT looks great and everything grows and seems happy. I have macro, a cuc, a couple of damsels, choco star in the sump. It does have some cyano but it never reaches the DT. It started when I stopped running GFO, but if it's being used by something not in the DT- what's the difference. I dose kalk, occasional baked baking soda for alk. I am cutting back on vinegar thinking that it helps the cyano grow. I test calcium and alk every once in a while. So I can't see a reason for wc's unless something is going wrong.

Granted, it is a larger tank. I have noticed my cyano getting worse and macro growing less, but I think that is because I stopped GFO. I am going to start running it again after a small water change on Thursday. 2 water changes in 2 weeks so I migh be able to go for another long stretch.

I went a long time without a WC. New tank I think its ok. But my 4 gallon is 3.5 years old. I went 3 months and now Im fighting a macro algae break out. If I keep up with the WC it keeps it under control. But a soon as I go 2 weeks or more it takes over the tank.
