40 breeder

There are some great threads on here that explained why this is an issue, Not only is it very stressful on the fish but also stunts their growth and causes many problems in the long run. A good rule to go by is dont get a fish that will ever out grow your tank. Not really fair to the fish.

No i fully agree with you about it, its not fair to the fish and it does stunt their growth. However the fact of the matter is that certain fish their is exceptions. Such as the foxface... Sure its recomended tank size is 125 but they are not open water swimmers and can be happy in a 55 or 75. Everyone has their own oppinions but what it comes down to is making the right decision so u dont have to get rid of a fish u love cuz they get too big.

You also have a hippo tang in a 40 which is CRAZY, so im not trying to be nasty, but i really wouldnt take advice from someone with a tang that requires 200 gallons in a 40 breeder? and to answer the real question it all depends on what anthias you but i should have been more clear Blotched Anthias no you need a way bigger tank but Ventralis Anthias would be fine. So i guess it does depend on what Anthias you are talking about!

Just because its my choice to put a tang in it, doesn't mean I have no idea what I am doing. Definitely doesn't mean I am a newbie to this hobby. When I got that tang it was smaller than 2" so I wanted to keep it until it gets to a certain size, and I will be selling it soon anyway.

I don't understand why everyone is a tang police. Who decides this size anyway? You say 200g for a tang, some say 75g, some say 120g....everyone has a different idea. If I listen others in this forum and get a 100g tank, I would be still flamed by you. Why do you think a YT damsel doesn't need a big tank? Just because they are small? If so, have you ever seen how they live in ocean?

My point is non of these fish belong to an aquarium. I see no difference between a 3" damsel that can BELONG to my aquarium and a 3" tang that can't.

Exactly why I couldn't take advice when research wasn't done there is a HUGE difference in the two. I thought that went without saying comparing a fish that gets 3" max size to one that should be 12-18" is crazy! Tang police isn't the word I would use but, yes tangs are commonly put into tanks that are to small thus people have explain over and over why tanks are to small! Weather 125-200 you would be hard pressed to get anyone agree that a blue is ok in a 40 no matter the size when it went in! One what we talked about before it has shown to stunt growth and shorten the life span of these beautiful fish! But again its not my tank just feel bad for the fish that get put into tanks much to small for their needs because someone thinks they will look pretty in their tank. :headwally: :headwalls:

Here is mine.

Man, I think your tank looks really great! Love the seperate islands! As far as the tang goes...(and its not the point of the original post)...to each their own. If its only 2", you can sell it in a while when it seems like its outgrowing the tank. Personaly, I love hippo tangs and have a 3-1/2" in my 75g reef. I don't feel this harms the fish in the least. Mine seems happy, unstressed and has a huge gut! In a few months i know I'll have to trade him back to the LFS or give him away to a local reefer with a larger tank. I'm ok with that and those were my intnsions when I added him to the tank.Just my 2 cents.

I don't wanna continue this pointless debate and repeat myself over and over again. I already answered your new post in my previous one. If you still don't understand my point and this makes me less credible to you, so be it.

The reason that you are not a saltwater hobbiest or a fishlover is because in the wild these fish swim miles a day 1 mile is 5280 feet 1 40 gallon breeder 3 feet see the difference. I would not put a tang in 75,125 and for some not even 200 gallons. I am seriously considering taking the tangs off the stock list for my future 1520 gallon tank because no matter how gorgeus they are they belong in the wild!!!!!!! I remember snorkeling in Hawaii and coming across a group of 30 yellow tangs as soon as I the group I was snorkeling with got within 10 feet off them, off they sped at least 60 feet away from us. Does your blue tang have enough room to speed away when come into the room NO. Please for the health of the fish give it to a responsible hobbiest people like you give a bad name to the aquarium hobby
