i'm going to be setting up a 40 gallon regular soon & need to know what wattage of mh everyone would recommend for my 3" derasa. currently the derasa is in my 5.5 under 65w pc's & doing well. i'm still dosing dt's live phyto in the 5.5 just to be sure the derasa gets an extra boost of food to make up for the lack of mh lighting.

tia.

I don't know the dimensions of a 40 standard off the top of my head, but if you could go with 2 150w fixtures that would be great.

wouldn't 300w mh be a lot for a 40?

with 300?

thats not too much light, as long as you acclimate everything to the new lighting slowly

the only things going in after the cycle at first would be 2 gonioporas, the derasa & some pulsing xenia. could they handle that much light, even with slow acclimation?

i plan on getting maybe a maxima later on and lps & mushrooms. also, possibly 1 sps, a porcillopora (sp?).

the goniopora most likly wont like MH lighting, the xenia a Derasa will be fine. do you already have the goniopora?

yes, i have 2 of them in the same tank as the derasa. but i have 2 other tanks i can put them in, so will try in those rather than the 40 with mh. only problem is 1 of the tanks has a perc who constantly tried to host the big goni when it was in her tank. it was moved solely because of that perc. but i'll put the gonis in my 12g with 130w pc.

i feel your pain:) a year and a half of our ocellaris in every coral we have then one day they found the anemone( 1 of 3)
