40 Gallon AIO Tank Repair?

Hi,

I would appreciate your expertise on glass tank repairs. Have a spare 40G AIO.
As you can see from the photo, inner glass panel is broken. The broken glass is 8mm thick.

What is the best method to patch without removing the broken glass panel?

Can I use silicon sealant all over it and cover it with like 2-3mm thick glass panel?
Then glue a 1/4" thick Black ABS sheet onto the new glass with silicon to hide the uglies?

I will not working on it anytime soon, just no
room and it is in my garage stored away.

I've never repaired a broken pane in a tank before. I think covering it with a glass panel using silicone should work since it's the divider between the display and filter. I don't know how well the ABS will work but an internet search says silicone will stick to it.
