40 Gallon Breeder reef tank build...

Yeah, it does. It would be very cool if he showed up again, like the prodigal fish. I'm not even going to get another fish for a while anyway as my tank is otherwise going very well.

The problem with a lot of fish that slowly starve is that they continue to exhibit normal behavior right up until the very end. So even though he was acting normal I was very concerned not seeing him for three days.

So yes, it is a huge relief that he is still doing well. He's now hiding in an entirely different cave then the other 5 caves he dug out. He's got them all over the place now.

He looked too fat and healthy to have died IMO. Also the way your tank is setup I can see this happening again in the future with other fish possibly.

Especially fish that like to hide. I have a lot of caves, ledges and such. But because he builds caves in the sand under the rockwork ledges in the sand, he could have a myriad of caves on the back side of it. I know of 5 he's made in the front and sides.

I can see mostly all around my rockwork using the side glass as a mirror. But there are a few obscured places. I might have designed it too well. ;)

Yeah, I've read they prefer to be in pairs, but I think it is more of a stress reducer in that one can keep an eye out for predators while the other digs out caves. But he's in a pretty stress free environment.

I'm not going to add anything to the tank for a while now. I have my eye on some things, but I've got some nice corals and a few fish and I'm just going to let it be and just enjoy it for a while.

I kind of rushed a few things and now that my tank is cycled, has life in it and is going through it's new tank algae "bloom and fade" phase, its time to let it "grow up" a bit. LOL.

I'm getting some fabulous coralline growing in my refugium and it's started in my display as well. No time for pics lately, but soon I can post up some nice pics of it all.

I'm going to do a sequence of pics from the empty tank to it's current state. Maybe a short video or animated gif just to show how it got to where it is now.

That sounds great, Mark. I'm starting to get coralline in mine as well. Along with hair algae and a bit of cyano. The diatoms are mostly gone.

Oh! I have pods! Everywhere!!! The walls are alive. Lol

Hey both of your guys tanks are coming a long great!! I'm still working on my 40 breeder build because I'm going super slow lol
I actually set up a small 10 gallon nano 8 weeks ago and I have some coraline algea growing. ..when I first cycled my tank I cycled it with a nice piece of rock with coraline algea all over it. What I did to speed up my growth was put the rock that was covered in coraline algea into a bowl and chipped away and scraped a lot of coraline off and almost made like a coraline soup lol I poured that into my tank and ever since then I've had my coraline growing like crazy!

You can't see it in this picture but there's tons of small patches of green coraline algea that will eventually turn purple.

Yeah, you have to "seed" coralline. Mine is bright green and pink. Beautiful really.

My Xenia is really flourishing. It is so big and by far my favorite coral. Unlike many, I'm actually wanting it to kind of take over. But then again, I am the "weed" lover. LOL.

I've got a lot of pods too. Nothing to eat them (that I can tell thus far) but I have them. Wish the TS Goby would, but even those pods are too big and don't live in the sand where he always stays.

I have algae all over, but my Astrea snails keep it trimmed down perfectly. Its not overwhelming anything or out of control, but to me just a sign of a healthy new tank. Sure beats the glaring white rock.

Everything has been going so great lately...I've just let the tank be and I'm just kickin' back and enjoying the fruits of all my months of planning and labor.

No rush to add anything and the tank is giving me lots to look at and appreciate for now. GSP and Xenia are growing like weeds (as expected).

Nothing to see here...move along. LOL.
