40 Gallon Breeder reef tank build...

Thanks. Yes, the fish and shrimp all make regular use of all the overhangs and caves. It's nice seeing them move in and out and all around it.

I added an anemone yesterday. seems to have found a nice spot for himself right next to my zoas on the left, so now I moved my zoas to another rock. I know they move all over the place, but the 'nem seems to have found a place it likes and is anchored itself deep in between some rocks where it gets good light and enough flow. Now I just have to make sure that my LM Blenny doesn't go and knock that zoa rock off where I put it. That darn LM Blenny is such a "bull in a china shop". He just moves anything and everything not nailed down.

Mine does the same thing! But, I wouldn't be without him either!

Yeah, Benny the blenny is by far, my whole family's favorite tank inhabitant. Everyone just laughs at him because he acts almost human like. He reminds me of a Muppet character. And he is such a pig! I swear sometimes he looks like he's going to burst from overeating.

Here's an updated pic since my Anemone decided it wanted the rock area where my Zoas were.

Looks great! Your DIY rock cave is aging nicely too! Looks even more natural than it did to begin with, if that is possible lol

I can't hardly tell the difference between the real rock and the DIY rock wall anymore. It all looks pretty much the same now, even in person.

I think anyone starting out should understand the metamorphosis our tanks undergo in the first year. It's amazing how much my tank has changed in this time.

Now that my anemone has settled in, I moved my GSP up higher on the left rock (above the 'nem). It must love the current because now it is spreading faster than ever. I'll have to get a new pic of it.

Your tank looks amazing and is very inspiring.

Thanks. It's only a year old and I've really tried finding a natural balance with my additions. Most of the softies take up nitrates (as does my chaeto in my refugium), and all the fish live in and utilize different areas of the reef and the other creatures work with them. I hardly have to do any maintenance on my tank. It's pretty self-sustaining.

My Twin Spot apparently is no more. Haven't seen him in a very long time and the sand bed is getting pretty grungy looking, so I can only assume he isn't alive anymore because he always kept it clean, even when I didn't actually see him out. He lasted almost a year. I did my best for him. He wouldn't have lived as long if I left him at the LFS or if someone who knew nothing about them, got him. RIP little dude.

Today I picked up a Diamond Watchman Goby (which was what I wanted to begin with before rescuing the Twin Spot). This guy has acclimated quickly to the tank and is already working over the sand bed and even eating sinking pellets. But I did also get some Bene-Reef food, which has had a lot of success with sand bed filter feeders and corals.

I'll get better pics of him later. Here's a quick pic of the guy after just being put in his new home...

Updated shot of my tank. I rearranged a couple of things, now that my anemone has settled in. I moved my GSP up higher, and in the process some of it has already grown on the rock next to where it was, so it tore, and there is still some left there. My Green Kenya Tree is really growing out nice and fast. A great compliment to the Red Kenya Tree. Tank pic is a little hazy as I just fed some Bene-Reef to the tank.

My Diamond Watchman Goby has really been busy cleaning up the sandbed. Looking real good now (on the left anyway ;)).

I'm getting a new rock with some mushrooms and some macroalgae on it today. And someone else is giving me a huge amount of Blue Pulsing Xenia!!! I'm really stoked!

Just put my new rock with mushrooms and some unknown macroalgae on it, in the tank. If anyone knows what it is, let me know. I'll post the pic in the macroalgae forum as well. You can see my anemone just behind it to know where in the tank I put it. I'll try to get a FTS later this evening.

Either tomorrow or Friday I'll be getting a big bunch of Blue Pulsing Xenia for free! :D
