Didn't expect this to be as big as it is. Looks very well built, TOP NOTCH.

Forgot to describe the room where the tank will be. I got the living room and used it as the dining room, and the dining room is now the getaway area. It will be composed of the tank along with a professional poker table and a bar. The tank will be seen from the main entrance when you walk into the home, stairway, second story balcony, living room sofa, and lastly from the patio. I will take pictures of the house tomorrow and post for you people to see. What do you think? Any suggestions?

ohhh and btw there will be a poker game a month where fellow reefers and I will play with frag buy in. Winner takes the pot. Think this might workout, will invite you all for the opening night, for those of you who would like an excuse to travel to Miami. :lmao:

Just ordered a couple of items. I finally went ahead with a Hammerhead Gold, I spoke to Reeflo yesterday and based on my set up they recommended the hammerhead in order to run one pump for tank, chiller, and any other equipment I add. I also ordered the APEX with 2 Lab grade PH's probes, Temp Probe, and the DC8.

a hammerhead underneath your tank????????? thats a lot of pump to use with little head pressure, despite running other equipment. I hope it works out for you.

out of curiousity, what are your plans for standpipes/drains? with all that water returning to the tank, id think you'd want at least 4 drains to keep up with it and help keep overflow/drain noise down

I also thought it was too much and was undecided on this whole thing so I went ahead and called reeflo and they said that the ideal pump was one that turned the volume of water 6-10 times around per hour :worried: They asked me about the set up and concluded that if I went with a Barracuda it would be short and if I went with the hammerhead I would have enough and a little more. Still not all too sure about this. In regards to the drain, tank will only have one overflow off centered to the right and do not recall the details of how many drains there will be. I will call Felix the builder tomorrow and find out. What do you think? You think I can have problems going this way? Anyone else with similar size tank, what pump are you running?

Good looking plan, Daniel...we'll be following along.
I think the hammerhead is going to be LOUD, so you'll need some good sound-proofing under the stand. Do you have a design drawing of the tank? It would be nice to see how you are planning to lay everything out. And yes, the poker/frag night sounds like a winner - we'll look you up on our next trip down!! :)

How can I sound proof the stand? I do not have a drawing of the tank due to my inability to use google sketch or any similar software. I do have something better, I will have the stand and canopy next week and will post pictures with all equipment as well. Let me know when you plan a trip down to Miami and i'll schedule a poker night so you can swing by. Thanks for the input. Let me know about the sound proofing if you can. Thanks

Like the idea of a poker game w/ frags as the buy-in. Might have to try that sometime when I have frags to use.

Yeah it's a different idea.. Let me know how it goes if you put one of these games together.

I'm looking into using LED's as the supplemental lighting. I am thinking about getting 2 strips to put in the front and back of the Halide reflectors. Any suggestions in regards to this or approvals in favor?

The hammerhead is rated at 5500gph @ 4' head and 4200gph @ 14' head... seems like an awful lot of flow for a 300gal DT when mounting in the stand. A sketch or desciption of your piping plans will help.....

Just wanted to say this is an awesome build, and I look forward to the outcome. One thing you might want to look into for the APEX is the vortech controller they have, I have one on my system and it just allows you to extend the functionality of these amazing pumps even more.

You can always throttle these pumps back without hurting them, it will also cut power comsumption as well. Better to have more than enough than not enough, you never know what else you might want to run off of it. Plan ahead when plumbing and leave an extra output for the future. Just my 2 cents.Good luck

You are absolutely going to regret using such a large return pump. Sorry to say, but you made a mistake. Many of us use a return pump that is way overkill. I am and I'm working on changing it. Your system will be loud especially your overflows. Your return pump should be pushing no more than what your skimmer pushes. If your skimmer is pushing 1000 gallons per hour, then thats what your main pump should be pulling thru the sump. Aren't you running the MP40's? Anyone can disagree with me, but wait til you turn that thing on. Don't lose your receipt.

Hows the RE cone 250 working out for you? There was alot of noise about them when they first were being released. Im still between this and a certain Deltec. The deltec is kinda favored by me because I can add the self cleaning head. I understand the pump and reordering issues though.
