40D price range...

I have been looking for a 40D, as a replacement for my XTi. I am actually going to do a trade with my dad, as he wants into the dSLR's after seeing my XTi.

So I sorta made him a deal that if he got me a 40D, I'd give him my XTi set up with battery grip, and an extra lens.

anyways......the prices for the 40D seem to very greatly.....depending on the place. I figure I just want the camera body, but B&H has a good deal on the 28-130mm IS lens.

but i also saw this......this seems to be one of those "too good to be true" deals.....what do you all think?

I'd have to say yeah- click on this link.. Generally speaking B&H sets the price standard by which the other reputable dealers go by. You'll find lower prices elsewhere from reputable dealers too though not much lower. Canoga Camera has always been good for me. I don't like B&H anymore because the last time I dealt with them they kept me waiting on hold for 20 minutes and when they finally answered the phone they were rude.

wow, that is quite interesting. i knew i had seen someone post a link to a review site before, but couldn't remember what it was. the link you provided must have been what i was thinking about.

i saw this review site, and ALL of the stores seem to get raving reviews...lol

i see some of the reviews on that place say they placed the order, but then if you don't buy the over priced accessories they'll put you on "back order".......forever......

wow, very shady....i knew something was up but i couldn't figure out what it was exactly.

Getting a good price is very important...but as you already know Al...B&H's customer service is second to none and they don't play any games. Plus their prices are very competitive to boot.

yeah, i've had great dealings with B&H in the past when I had to send back a defective lens. it was pretty much no questions asked after i submitted the claim. i got the replacement back in about a week after i sent the other one back.

my dad gets lured into those catchy internet review places too easily, esspecially the ones that show prices too good to be true. i think thats what threw him off as "shopcartusa" showed BestPriceCamera's as having great reviews......lol

talk about a scam...

Why the change from the XTI to the 40D?

my dad wants my XTi.....he has an old 35mm SLR....but wants to get into the dSLR stuff after seeing the XTi he got for me over a year ago. I told him if he'd buy me the 40D, I'd give him the XTi w/ the battery grip & extra battery, plus the kit lens that came with it (15-55mm crap lens), plus my L-glass telephoto lens I never use anymore since I don't travel enough.

of course.....I'll still yoink the telephoto lens from him if I ever need it. but at the moment, I'd rather have a better body and a better walk around lens, as I rarely ever travel or seem to have the need for the telephoto since I got it and used it for a couple of events over the summer.

the 40D has a couple of extra features that i'm more interested now that i seem to have learned *most* of the capabilities of the XTi.

so its kinda pointless for both of us to have the XTi......but it will be nice to be able to swap lenses as needed so neither of us have to invest heavily.

I had an exact experience with a lens I bought...from the day I put it back in the mail till the day I received the new one was 7 days!

Ya got to take care of Dad. Æ'º

I¡¥m thinking of buying a Canon Rebel XT. Maybe skip the standard 18-55 lens and go with something like a the 28-130 with IS you mention. I can get the XT body for about $435. Not sure about the lens.

This would be my first DSLR.

What do you think?

the 18-55mm lens is a good lens to learn on if you are not familiar with dSLR's. but thats about all its good for IMO.

don't know if the 28-130 IS at full price is worth it since I've never used it before.

but theres nothing wrong with the XT as your first dSLR. it fits nicely into people's budgets IMO as a good starting camera.

Can anyone say gray market? Don't buy it from there.. go with a reputable dealer, or if you want to try and find it cheaper go with ebay or craigslist.. but not from a site that is called bestpricecameras.
