40g breeder stocking advice

Hello,
I've had an algae blenny and an ocellaris clownfish (1.25" in size) for a couple months. I'd like to get additional fish in the aquarium. I would like a valentini puffer. With these 3 fish, would I be able to get an additional small (1" clownfish)? Any other fish suggestions for a tank this size, or will I be maxed out with the addition of the valentini's bioload?

I'd not add after the puffer, but I'm conservative with stocking. Another clownfish would possibly incur the wrath of the existing clown, never a pretty sight.

Yes you can add another clown as long as its like you say about an inch. Make sure its much smaller than yours or they both could have already turned female. If that is the case then they will kill each other. Occelaris clowns are usually easy to pair, its the maroon clowns that are near impossible to pair up

You can do the puffer but make sure it's what you want before you get one. They will kill shrimp, snails and more than likely your hermit crabs.

Thanks, over the years I've had several fresh and brackish puffers (dwarf, figure 8's, green spotted). I'm pretty set on the valentini and am familiar with all the...problems those little blimps come with.

Valentinis are nothing like the brackish puffers

They jump and boy do they jump! They're also a lot more presistant than the brackish ones

I completely disagree. I have had figure 8 and green spot. Valentinis are mild compared to them. I wouldn't hesitate on a Valentini. If you want shrimp, add them before and let them get established for a few months. Get the Valentini small, feed it frequently, and chances are you will be fine. The baby ones are the cutest anyways. Eventually your cuc will be eaten, and will need to be replaced. I love puffers, valentinis are awesome. Do it.

I would add the clownfish first though. Let them fight it out for dominance. Valentini last, when they are larger their bioload will be it for the tank unless you want to do weekly water changes.
For what it's worth, I'm also a huge puffer person. I don't think I will ever have a sw tank that doesn't include a Valentini.
