Ok tried this in the light forum, no responses, what would you sps keepers suggest for a 36 x18x16 tank with approx 2 inch sandbed leaving about 14" depth, for light to be able to keep sps, going for a mixed tank, but down the road would like to keep a clam as well, i know placment will be important with any fixture, but what would you guys suggest.? Thanks in advance

Dave

center brace on top of the tank or not?

If no center brace- most halides have a 2X2 coverage. I would personally do a single 250 watt halide, your choice spectrum. SPS in the middle with softies and light demanding corals toward the sides.

you will notice the egg crate blocking out quite a bit of light, but if you are concerned about jumpers it may be your only option, i ran an open top 90 gallon for over a year and a half before i moved and had to tear it down and didnt have a single jumper.

if you are going to use egg crate i would stick with my original suggestion of two halides, i dont think youd get by with just one.

broog,

hate to rain on your parade, but a new aga 50g does have a center brace.

the 40g doesnt though and niether does a 50g, 58g, or 70g oceanic

No center brace on tank, aga, will be using eggcrate on top for surfers.

If you are using eggcrate, I'd say 2 MH. Just because of you put one in the center, then the edges will get shadowed by the egg crate.

I say two 250W lights. I have a 20L, which is 30" long, about 12" high and there is not enough light for acros on the ends of the tank. zoos and rics are okay, but they aren't as brightly colored as ones closer to the light.
