440 Acrylic tank, what should be the thinkness of the panels?

We have an opportunity to work on a project for a local public aquarium. They received a donated 440g tank that is 96 x 36 x 30 but the acrylic is only 11/16". I'm afraid that the tank may not hold, is that thickness normal for large tanks?

the height is the important dimension, my 96 x 24 x 30 is 3/4" acrylic but I've seen the same tank with 1/2" too, so 11/16 should be fine

It all depends on the bracing on top...but if you are braced heavily you should be ok....

Cyro's acrylic thickness calculator suggests an inch thick for a tank this size. It does seem a little conservative to me.

The material on the tank is 3/4", well the metric "equivalent" anyway - 18mm which is .708", just a tad above 11/16". With the exception of one domestic mfr (Polycast), whenever you ask your acrylic distributor for 3/4", you are gonna get 18mm.
Yes, you'd like to see thicker but that is the "industrial standard" for this size aquarium. As stated earlier, if properly - should be okay.

The tank also had some tiny fractures on the joints. We decided that we will not set that tank up. Thanks for the advice.
