45 Build some pics!

Huhhhhh,

Thanks a bunch. I forgot to mention that my buddy and I tried to take out some scratches before I added the LR and now my front acrylic looks bad. Should I try and buff it out more or leave it as is?

Looking good, Zoomie!!!! Welcome to SCMAS. LMK when you want some easy corals to start out with. I can give you some freebies.

Hey guys thanks for all the kind words. I hope you all don't mind if I pick your brains for all that good info. I plan on joining up now. I think it's pretty cool that there is so many reefers in the southern colorado area. Murfman I might take you up on the offer! Thanks a bunch and you all take care.

Hey all,

I did an ammonia test yesterday and it read zero. Should I do a nitrite test today? I bought fully cured live rock so I expected a fast cycle but not this fast. What do you all think, should I get more live rock now or wait a little longer? Thanks a bunch.

Lou

I'd do like Calvin says and test all every day till you know for sure the cycle is done. Even with "fully cured" live rock, you will still have a cycle. The only time you won't is if you pulled it from someones established tank and dropped it into yours with minimal time out of the water.

Sounds good. I have a nitrite test, will go out and get more test kits. I have had the LR in since the 4th of March. I only have about 20 pounds. I had planned on adding a little LR at a time till I get to about 50 pounds. Thanks for the help guys! (Can you tell I'm bored at work!)

You don't want to keep adding live rock, you want to get it all at once... Every time you add rock, you could create an additional mini cycle from the die off. Try to get it all before you start adding livestock. BTW, I think we are all bored at work. LOL!

RC and SCMAS is what gets me through the day!!!

Haha, I hear ya there. Ok I will purchase the rest of my LR and add it this weekend. Is 50 pounds total enough for a 45 Gallon? Also my RO unit under my sink went on the fritz so I plan on buying a unit from the filterguys and mounting it in my laundry room. Sound like a good idea? Thanks a bunch.

Lou

50 lbs for 45g sounds fine to me, really don't worry about the weight as much as how it looks... If it looks like you need more get more, if it's packed, don't try to fit more in there. As for filter, I'd recommend putting it where ever you have the room for the largest container you can get. :D Nothing worse than going to get water and it's empty... LOL!

Our main concern is water damage. The unit I had was from Home Depot and it leaked water all over my brand new hardwood floors. I was a little upset to say the least. The laundry room is off the family room and formal living room so I am thinking about making a rubbermaid reservoir and doing an auto top off. I could make the line long enough to reach my tank, only about 10 feet from the laundry room. Thanks for all the info.

You wouldn't want to hook up the RODI to your tank... They work best when you run them for a while, not a constant on/off. The reservouir idea is the best plan IMO.
