I am planning on keeping 35g of RODI in one of these babies.... they will put the bulkhead wherever you want it, and I think this would be better then an open container to keep the RODI from going bad.

I'm planning on going with a vertical one instead of horizontal so it doesn't take up as much room (footprint). This is the same thing Chris (Reefkoi) did for his water changes and I love the idea!

Nice, Think I check those out. I forgot to mention I would fill up the auto top off tank then put the hoe back in the laundry room. I found some good info on auto top off systems. I have a couch next to my tank and I have an area I can put the reservior hidden by the couch and a wall.

ah, so something like this? I was planning on putting the tank on a counter top on top of cabinets next to the sink in the laundry room, so the length doesn't bother me.

I did a nitrite test lastnight and it read zero. I am going to pick up a new test kit so I can test Nitrates plus my test kits are kind of old and I don't trust them.

Just got home and noticed I am getting more brown algea all over the tank, rocks and sand. Should I go ahead and get a clean up crew? What is the best clean up crew these days? Last time I had a few snails and hermit crabs. Thanks a bunch.

Personally I am not a huge fan of Hermits. They are the scape goats in my tank when I need more snails, especially when I found one running around in a Nassarius snail shell last night. I know that they can right themselves should they fall on their backs.
Not much eats the brown Diatom algae. You may just have to wait it out.

I would go with like 20 Astrae snails
15 margarita snails
and 20 Nassarius (but I would hold on the Nass. you have fish in the tank).

Hi all,

I went ahead and bought a clean up crew lastnight. I got 6 turbo snails and 4 tiny hermit crabs. I put one of each in the fuge and the rest in the main display. They have been working on the algae all night. I woke up this morning and they completely cleaned off two rocks. I think I have more than enough algae to keep em well fed. I will take some pics tonight. Take it easy all.

The sandbed just ended up that way from the flow. I have a scwd on the return line. Makes great alternating currents. I wish it would lay flat tho, oh well. I did see a bristleworm in the fuge 2 days ago. I saw 2 clear looking long worms in the main dispaly yesterday, I took pics but they are crappy plus im in Biloxi till Thursday. I will look at melev's pics and see if I can id it.

Here is a pic of the worm I saw. It is a bristleworm. I read somewhere that bristleworms are bad. Is that true?

Good thats where they belong isn't it, I mean if they can't do the laundry what good are they?

But really, it sounds like you are doing everything right and it's cycling properly because you have some brown nasty on the bottom, it'll go away provided you get some good ro/di water in there and don't add fish too fast.

Bristleworms generally aren't bad. There is one caribbean species called the "fire worm" that isn't good but all the rest are general scavengers. Only bad thing about those species is getting a few of the bristles in your hands when you move a frag or rock barehanded. Good news is Elmers wood glue works wonders to get them out. Just rub a little over the offending spine and let it dry then peal off.

Thanks for the good info! I'll remember that elmers glue trick, I'm sure it will come in handy. I have been buying my DI water at the lfs. I plan on buying a filterguys ro/di unit. I was thinking the one for 160 bucks and do a ro tap off for drinking water. Widefield water is disgusting! I am in biloxi, Mississippi till Thursday and plan on finding a good fish store. Let me know if you all want anything.

Hi all,

Got back from Mississippi last night and was amazed at how the cleanup crew desrtoyed my brown algae!!! The LR is clean as a whistle, still have some on the sand but not as bad as when I left. I finally saw a butload of pods all over the glass! My Calupera in the fuge has grow quite a bit too. Was so cool coming home and seeing my tank going in the right direction. I will post pics tonight. Any advice?

Hi all,

Just wanted to post some pics. I tried using my old protien skimmer but it wasn't working very well and put a butload of micro bubbles in my main display. Think i'll try to modify it and see what happens.
