48x18x21 - bad dimensions?

What do you think about those dimensions. I found a brand new marineland tank, stand and canopy for $250. My concern is that the 18" depth might be too narrow? Would love to have a Tang in the tank..

Thank you

It may be a tad too narrow, but it will work. My tank is 48 long and 18 deep and I have had a yellow tang for a couple years now. When I first go him, he was fairly small. Getting ready to upgrade to a 180g.

I wouldnt recommend it, i always prefer a greater width than length. Its easier to work with. Id recommend at least a 120 for the tang, 48x24x24. Great dimensions.

Yea I have a 48x18x32 I wish I had a long wide tank. The narrowness is not as bad as the height lol it sucks to work on. I got the tank free but in hindsight I would have paid for a more suited tank

Depends what you want to do with it and where you want to put it. As you can see above, many people whish they had extra depth after getting an 18" deep/wide tank. OTOH, 24" can get intrusive if you don't have the space for it.

I have a 120 (24" deep) and, while I like the depth, it does cut into the room a bit.

If you can, take a look at some tanks that are 18 and 24" deep and see if you think you need the extra 6"

As doc stated yes the extra 6" is nice, but can be too large for a room. Here is a suggestion before you buy a tank Get a large piece of cardboard and cut out the size of the tank hold it where you want to put the tank about 6 " from the wall. Take a look to see if you and or you and the significant other will be happy with it.

+1. If you have concerns, I would go a step further - get some 1x2s, PVC pipe, or something to make an actual box. Seeing the footprint is helpful, but having the full box can help even more.

You can have a tang in a 75 you can't have 12 tangs in a 75. Do your research before you buy the fish and chose wisely you can have success.

That aside if your budget and space allow it you will not regret going bigger.

18" works, but more is definitely nicer. I have a 90g right now which is the same dimensions as the 75 you're looking at except add a few inches of height. My rockwork touches the back glass in places and makes it fairly tight, but my Blue Tang and Sailfin Tank have no issues cruising around back there. I'm just building up my list of supplies for plumbing to finish my 300g tank to really let my Tangs stretch their legs!

The 75g is a good tank. Maybe try to be minimalistic with rockwork in the DT and have enough room in your sump to keep more rock. That'll give you plenty of swimming room.

Be cautious with Tangs in a 75 (even my 90). They really need more room than that. That's why I'm upgrading to an 8ft tank.
