Ok I'm going to be setting up a 120g 48x24x24 full SPS before to long and have been trying to chouse my lighting. I'm really wanting the color but some nice growth wouldnt be a bad thing of course. My 3 ideas are as fallows.
Teck elite 48w 8 bulb unit for $628.95. Good price and I use the 39w unit know and like it pretty well over my 40g breeder full SPS. Never understood why the ATI cost twice as much. Any thought on that?
ATI Powermodle 48w 10 bulb unit for $1259.95 good thing is nice low profile look and 2 extra bulbs but cost a heck of alot more. Not sure the price differance is worth it over the Teck. Also wondering if heat may become an issue do to the 10 bulbs. Plus always needing to clean the reflector do to salt splash.
Last couse is going with MH instead of T5's
2 lumin bright SE 3 minis $220
2 good ballast. Not sure what works best yet. $300
2 Ushio or radium bulbs. $160
For a total of $680 or so dollars.
plus side price isnt to bad. Much cheeper then the ATI and heat shouldn't be an issue do to the hight placement of the LB mini and should have to ever really clean the reflectors do to such a high placement. Anoth cool thing is with the bulbs be so high I could do a rimmless tank and get a really cool look. But the the cost of the tank goes WAY up.
As a side note I will also be doing a frag prop tank and on that tank I plan on having the same or at least very similar lighting to reduce ligting shock to the corals.
Your thoughts are greatly aprishieted. I'm just not sure what way would be the best as far as cost vs outcome of the tank. So any help or ideas would be very helpfull. Even if it's somthing that I might not have thought of.
As far as LED. not in the price range and just still waiting because....
