Check out this tank! My Grandpa had this thing in his attic for awhile, so I asked him if I could have it. So here it is, sitting there doing nothing. And I can't let a tank with awesome 1 of a kind dimensions go to waste! SO here is where you guys come in. I was planning on making this into a reef, but after some thought, I am thinking maybe a Mantis Shrimp? So either way, I will probably have corals, but just throw out some ideas so I can put this tank to good use! PICS!!!

The PSP is there only for a size comparison. And as you can see, it is definatly a tank I have never seen before! LMK guys, thanks!

Thats awesome, I would make that into a reef, long tanks are really cool, and get a tunze nano stream so it creates that wave effect on that long tanks, or just get a/some maxijet(s) and put them on a wave thing so it pulses send waves across the tank. Then so mainly LPS, and xenia, because of the waving motion. Do corals like frogspawn, hammer, torch, and xenia. That would look cool.

Yeah, I was thinking wavy corals. But I was going to do the modded canister filter as my main filtration. So that would be around 130gph. And the wave would be kinda cool, where can I find a nano stream, and how would that make a wave?

Ok, I just checked out that Nano Stream. The thing is like 600gph! That would blow the water right out of my tank for Pete's sake! Unless it is somehow designed so it doesn't do that...? LMK!

Im not really sure, all I know is that tunze create waves. The nano streams dont come out till september. You could do a maxijet on a wave powerstripe so that is pulses maybe every few seconds. How long is the tank. I would do just some PC lighting, lighting should be really cheap because the tank is so shallow and long

The tank is 24" long, 8" tall, and 5-6 or so inches deep. Now, I am wondering is a Viper K2 70w light would be able to light this whole tank, even considering the length? If it can, then I would want one of those so I could get a 20k bulb, and I could keep clams, etc. And I wanted the tank to be open mainly. Free of equipment. So I think I will split my return from my Eheim filter, and use that as my flow so my tank will be clear of equipment. Thanks and LMK!

I would do 24" HO T5 with individual reflectors, although you might be able to get away with just reg T5 with individual reflectors. A metal halide isnt going to cover that whole tank, unless you have it really high. That tank isnt deep at all, so I think T5s could support clams

Hmm. Thats a good thought. Now HO are only Tek right? Because those are alot. Are there any cheap HO T5 fixtures that you know of?

It hangs over about 1/2", but I am going to keep the water level below that. Maybe I would even coat it with some type of waterproof sealant maybe?

I have heard of aquatraders ballast lighting on fire. Since T5 lighting or at least HO is comparable to PC with alot less watts, and that tank is really shallow, I think you could get away with just reg T5 lighting with individual reflectors, but I dont know the intensity diff between reg and HO. If its big, then you would need to go HO. You could always get a retrofit kit and build a canopy or something. That way you can mix and match bulbs and how many you have.

Yeah, but I didn't really want to build a canopy. That's all. And for $40 even if the ting does catch on fire (unlikely), It is still only $40. So I could just keep buying them lol. I could get like 6 before it equals the cost of a Tek.

In then end I think you will want a nicer one, buts thats just my opinion. And if it does catch on fire( I think there have been multiple cases of this) its gonna be alot more than 40 to repair whatever is burned. If I were you, I woul go with a 24" T5 setup with indiv relfectors if its not a big diffrence between them and HO. You can also go PC, but that will raise your temps. I would not go metal halide, pendents cant spread that far unless there really high up, and then you lose alot of light, which is pointless

Yeah. But still. for $40.... I dont wanna sound like I dont care what you say, because i do. I am just saying that for $40, it is like a steal!

So i can get an idea of the inside dimensions.... that tank has alot of potentional... I would go for an all in one type deal with filtration on the left and right side...
