5.2g XXL. Hmmm... Possible new project for me?

Ok, I made a diagram of the all in one filtration. if I were to do it. it just seems alot harder than it has to be, plus it will take up alot of tank space. here it is.

First, that thing looks incredibly clean to have "just been sitting in an attic forever."

Second, i really like the dimensions of the tank for a potential reef (and i would run the 2 x 24" t5 set-up mentioned, btw) but i would be scared of utilizing THAT particular tank for saltwater simply because of that metal trim!!

You could build one (or have one built) with the same dimensions inexpensively from either glass or acylic. Just my $0.02.

I'm going to refund hurdicuss his $0.02 just cuz. I'm not partial to canister filters and I am biased due to the huge success of my 5.5aga all in one i custom made...

Ok, does anyone have another diagram then, so I can do an all-in-one if it is so much better?

And i could have one built, but I have this here, and it has no other use! I was thinking of coating the trim maybe?

But I just thought about it, and maybe I will get an acrylic tank made... I will let you know. And does anyone know a good place to order from?

NO ACRYLIC!!! ACRYLIC IS 4% MORE EVIL THEN GLASS!! www.glasscages.com is alright, I didn't really like the gentlemen I was dealing with but its all good... just get some glass cut up and some silicone and your set :-)

Well, he says he will not ship glass... And I didn't really want to build it because I have never built a tank before...

i second the worry about the metal...although its a sweet tank, but what about the long run....look into your local LFS and see what they say, some will give you a sweet deal

and i am going to plagerize the hell outta ninja's tank in about 7 months!! To the "T"

in regards to the comments made about lighting and being only 40.00. Remeber you get what you pay for and also your investing $ into this tank it would be foolish if you lost 200.00 or even 300.00 because your 40.00 light blew up and caught fire???

Just my thought

If that is a slate bottom tank check to see what kind of sealant it has. If it isn't silicone it could lead to trouble with salt water. The sealant isn't as strong as silacone which is why the metal frame is necessary. I had several of those old tanks from my dad when growing up. I don't know how well they'll fare w/ sensative inverts. I do like those dimensions though. some sort of surge device would make for a cool scene.
I want to see how it looks setup. I like the stainless frame.

Back in the day all the tanks were like that. I have an 8 gallon slate bottom siting ing my basement. If you do go with a mantis shrimp as you mentioned above you may want to go with an acrilic tank, htey can somtimes shatter glass. Also, I would not suggest a mantis shrip in a reef. They aren't called thumb spliters for nothing, and you have to often put your hands into a reef. check out the matis videos on youtube.

slate is stronger than glass. I'm sure there are other reasons but I can't think of any right now.
