5 gal skimmer build (built)

Running great. Need to clean out my intake tubes in the next month or so.

If I were going to do it again I'd use a single large pump and adjust everything else accordingly.

Running very good. I would probably get a pump that was meant for this and mesh mod. As-is the mag 12 mesh modded performs pretty well. Definitely go with a a large throat, 3-4 Inches. I think 3 is perfect for mine.

I just picked up a pump on e-bay it is off a D.A.S. series skimmer (Believed to be an aquabee 2000/1). I am having a hard time finding the unions to connect it to the skimmer as they are Sprears and have a much more course of threads. Obviously this will be on either a 2.5 or 3 gallon.

I don't know what Sprears is?? But I would try to replace the plumbing on the pump so it works. That actually looks like a smaller MAG to me. I am wondering if you will get enough output from that pump. What is its rated GPH?

If you change the plumbing (if that is possible) then I would ditch the unions, they just take up space. Nothing needs to be glued, so it will come apart easily. That is if this is going to be an IN sump which I would HIGHLY recommend.

The pump is about 530GPH needle wheel pump pulling in 450lph/air it is german made. Spears is the manufacture of the union ends the input appears to be 1/2" the output is custom close to 3/4". After receiving the pump I found out it is a Very High end pump and want to try and keep it as is. They are commonly used on Deltec APF 600, H&S A150-F2001 Skimmers.
