one of my LFS has a beautiful 5" Peacock Mantis and its incredible!!! the colors are amazing and it is super thick!!!

i was just wondering if you guys think that $50 is a good price?

also what size tank would i need for a mantis shrimp of this size?
could it be glass or would i def. need to go with acrylic?

thanks,

josh

Since you can buy a N. Wennerae for $50 at TBS, I would think that $50 for a Peacock that you can see for yourself is a good price. Check out Roys ID page for tank size, but I think its 20gal min and acrylic is better due to better impact resistance.

One of my LFS sells it for 29.99. The other sells it for 149.99 Aquarium Adventure... If mantis shrimps are rare in your area, I would say it's a good price, but I wouldn't pay that much personally.

Well, here in Lynchburg, VA a small 3" "Zebra" mantis (don't know what species that is) goes for $65. If it's 5" and nice colors, I doubt you'd do much betting in the area.

I'd recommend a few good stores in Richmond that could probably order you one, but you'd spend as much in gas getting there these days.

i've seen that mantis in question at PAW. it is DEFINITELY NOT a true zebra mantis. its probably wannerae, and a very pretty one. i dont know if PAW or their wholesaler decided to call it a zebra, but its definitely not even close to a true zebra. check out Roy's ID page to see what a true zebra is.

for one, a zebra mantis, Lysiosquillina maculata has spearing appendages. the one in PAW was a smasher. also, the manager said it came from a wholesaler somewhere in florida/carribean. which is pretty much a dead give away considering its has a tourquoise and pink coloration.

$65 is expensive, and you could prob get a better colored one ordered from one of the saltwater specialty stores in richmond, gas + the price of the mantis would prob come out to be equal. and one store in richmond particularly will keep ordering one for you until you are satisfied with the color, as they did with some peacocks last winter. ;)
