500 Gallon Build

Great behind the scene video.

Thanks!

I can now finish the lights with all 8 outlets and the extra 4 channels. Still need one more VDM for the jebao pumps to run off of yet.

fantastic, ive been following along and just a little bit more interested in how you spliced in the cat5 Ethernet cable to the lights and how the wiring works more closely in the light fixtures themselves. Basically did you splice into the wires coming out of the dimmer or the harness connected directly to the leds board itself. thanks in adavance

I got 4 separate colors of wire to keep track of which wire is wich as there are 4 wires total used for dimming. Two per driver.

I cut the 4 wires going into each dimmer switch and soldered in my own. The leads go into the drivers.

I make my own Ethernet cable here at the shop so I just cut to length and crimp on the RJ-45 connectors on one end. The other end I put ring terminals on to easily connect with the wires coming from the lights. All wires have ring terminals on the ends and they meet together on a 10/24 machine screw with washers and nuts to tighten them all together.

Only pins 1,2,5,6 are used, the other 4 are not needed.

Looks like a few wires make up the lighting. 8 dimming channels however the 8th one is loose in the rj45 plug so i have to cut it off and crimp another. Other then that all ready to tidy up.

Now getting the lights all graphed out nice in Fusion is going to be a chore. Lot of planning involved in syncing up 8 differernt channels and outlets together with intensity and color spectrum.

That is what I have for on/off times at the moment. Top numbers being the first row, bottom being the last row.

Blue White
On Off On Off
8:30 20:30 10:30 18:30
9:00 21:00 11:00 19:00
9:30 21:30 11:30 19:30
10:00 22:00 12:00 20:00

The dimming is the real kicker.

Adjusted my white on/off times so they are on longer, but there is an overlap between the first row turning on whites and the last row turning on blues. I duno how to explain it lol.

Blue White
On Off On Off
8:30 20:30 9:30 19:30
9:00 21:00 10:00 20:00
9:30 21:30 10:30 20:30
10:00 22:00 11:00 21:00

Then the blues from row 1-4

Whites from row 1-4

And one with them all overlapped

I have it all peaking at 80% which I will probobly have to adjust some to get the look I want but I will start there. Obviously If I put the whites higher then the blues its going to look whiter, and if I put the blues higher then the whites it will look bluer.

Hung the dual reactor on the wall and put Rox 0.8 carbon in both sides.

Redid the wires for the probes now that the PVC pipe is there. Ran the wires accross theback side and down the pole. Looks much better. And I am getting multiple uses out of the poles :)

Pic of the lights firing up this morning.

5 gallon buckets for calcium and alkalinity. Should last for quite a while. Drilled a small hole in the lid and run the tubing down through. Going to get some of the acrylic rod from BRS to reach down to the bottom better as the tubing likes to curl up.

Now that I have an ORP proble it looks like my level is about as terrible as it can get haha. Sure its just the stock tank which hasnt even cycled or anything but still I would expect higher.

You can see the dramatic dip down to 89 when I added in the Jebao pump circulating water! Not sure why that would be. Then since I added the dual reactor with carbon in both sides, it has been climbing its way back up.

Do not chase ORP!

Do you have a fresh air feed on the skimmer yet?
Are you running ozone?

Try running 1/4 tubing to the air intake, from the outside, and see what happens. Put a sponge filter over it to keep bugs out.
