500 Gallon Build

Here are a select few of some fishy pictures that have made there way in from QT and a 29 gallon that has been running since I took the 210 down. The lawnmower, dottyback, and the two clowns came from there so far. The Mata Tang is extremely active and likes to get his picture taken.

I keep getting asked how it cycled so fast in 2 weeks. Welll the basement part has been running for several months already and cycled roughly 2 months ago. I figured I wouldn't see much of a change after adding the display, and sure enough I assumed correct. I test every other day or so and nothing. The only thing I can see is that the skimmer is now doing some work!

Well this morning sucked a bit. Found the female watanabei in QT on the floor a few feet away from the tank all dried up. Now the male is lonely.

Sorry to hear about the angel.

Been looking at equipment for when I go larger, the sticker price of a lot of it is ridiculous. Was going back through your thread and noticed the Jebao doser and the RW-20s. Those are very reasonable in comparison to ecotech/neptune counterparts. Have you started using the doser yet? Would you recommend it? How are you liking the RW-20s? From what I read and saw in videos, they really move some water. Are you still using them on opposite sides of the tank? Do you think you'll need more?

Yes I calibrated the doser last week and started using it. It works great for the price. The RW-20s are on each end of the tank and controlled by the apex, I dont use their own controllers. They move a lot of water, I guess I dont know if they are enough at this point in conjuction with the hammerheads flow but there seems to be movement just about everywhere from watching where food goes. I have no coral at this point to see how they are moving.

I love the size of this tank. Looks great man. I ordered a 310 from Custom Aquariums and it shipped yesterday. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the build quality. Particularly the silicone work. Also, I did not order those H2Overflows or Siphon Stoppers. I'm curious on what your thinking is going that route. They're sending me two so I can test the product, but I still can't wrap my head around those overflows being able to clear the surface scum of a full blown reef. Also does the siphon stopper come apart so you can clean the tubes? They're only 1/2" right? How many did you put on this tank?

I'm really looking forward to receiving my tank. Anxious isn't a strong enough term.

Subscribed. ;)

Silicone was awesome, lots of it and very nice! None of their plumbing stuff is glued together so it can be taken apart. I have 4 of them and yep they are 1/2".

Algae scrubber up and running with low to moderate flow. I will have to put some plexiglass shielding up or something to elimate splashing with higher flow.

Put a Jebao DC9000 in to power this room instead of one of the drains like it has been.

Moved the scrubber over to the larger tank yesterday morning. Now trying to decide if I want to hang thin acrylic sheets in between the canvas and light, or clear recycling garbage bags which can be thrown out and replaced very cheap. Also need some plastic clamps to get rid of the metal ones being used on the hose.
