Well if you can't decide, why not get both?... Just make sure that when you are mixing breads, that you order them from the same breeder,or else health problems might arise.

If you just want to do one, here are some helpers:

As far as color goes, Kuda are more likely to have a bright yellow or white coloration than Erectus who tend to stick with earth tones like purple, dark red, brown and occasionally will take on bright yellow, and orange colors.

If you are looking to raise the fry eventually, definitely go with Erectus as they hitch right from birth, and can eat baby brine shrimp as soon as they are born (no need for rotifers)

i really have not decided on the horses to get i just wanted a good horse that is hardy and beautiful at the same time. tell me about reidis

i thought it was bad to mix no matter what?

Its debatable, but i would not say that it is bad no matter what. If two breeds of seahorses are reared by the same breader, and have been exposed to the same pathogens for generations, they begin to develop immunities to each other's diseases. Thus, it is not a problem. For example, Oceanrider even has specials in which species are mixed. All of their horses have been raised under the same conditions and in tanks that are all plumped together. Their horses can be mixed without any health risks at all. You can find the same with other breeders as well.

to be honest, other than the different maturity of the fry, i don't know much about the difference in keeping kuda's, reidi's and erectus (which i think are the most popular three?)... if you get captive breds that are trained to eat frozen, they are all quite hardy. i got reidi's because they were available, got them about at about 3 months old and have had the same 4 for about 19 months. i lost one (originally started out with 5) very early on, and it disappeared without a trace. i suspect a rogue brittle star but i can't prove anything. but other than that they've been great for my tank. very active, love to eat, babies every 2 weeks.

now aqua scaping and befor i got two far into the cycle i went to the lfs and got a piece of fiji with lots of goodies i think this will speed up the cycle a bit right?

i have realy crappy light right now but i will get on that soon

I'm not quite sure on your hitchhiker macroalgae - perhaps codium.

Looks like a terrific start. The rockwork is very nice. Get some nice macro algaes growing in there and it looks like it'll be a great seahorse playground.

I have only heard good things about horses from dracomarine and seahorsesource as well. Since your just wanting hardy horses and no problems, I would suggest you play it safe and stick with a single species from a single source. Also, keep your temp around 74 degrees or as close to that as you can get it. I've heard many people say that captive bred erectus are the hardiest of species to keep.

i have been able to keep my tamp right at 74 all day with light on or off i use a small fan when light are on and turn it off at night. i will get it all on timmers when i mess with the new lighting.

Nice. I think the tank will look very good once it starts to mature. You will find all kinds of goodies popping up on the rock over time.

i have two different species in 1 tank without any problems but they are from the same source. i have 2 kudas and 7 reidis. they have all lived together in my tank for about 6months now with no problems. 1 of my favorite algaes is Botryocladia Sp (Red Grape Kelp ) we have a huge piece in our tank and the horses love it
