55 gallon build questions?

Ok folks going to build first ever reef tank. How many holes and size should i drill in my overflow. I will use a 20 gallon sump so what size return pump should I use. I'm sure I will have many more questions thanks for your advice. My main goal is soft corals with a few hard corals later.

3/4 to 1inch depending on what you want for your pump and sometimes people use botgh izes one dfor return and one for overflow
