Hello all

Welcome!
MY name is shawn, and i have been addicted since may 2009. ANd have turned to the dark side

I have taken this addiction from a traditional 40 g to a Elos 70 to new tank

I love all the details that others have in there post/threads so i am going to try to be as detailed as possible

As the title says I have been lucky enough to have a tank made for my own design. Its 56L 34W and 24H- its 197g. starfire all the 3 sides with a fiberglass bottom and a blacked-out back. It has a 14Lx7W overflow box with 2 2'inch drains and 1 1.5' return line. Its on a black metal stand on a slab of granite. I am going to leave to bottom open bc we converted a closet into a sump room. The sump is 70L 24W and 16H (water level running at 9-10)

Equipment-
Lighting - Vertex SR360 4 ft mode nicknamed Betelgeuse (after my fav star in Orion's belt) its 5' inch above the water line and has 3 extra UV pads in it.will have 4 when said and done. and also prob 3 reds at some point.
Havent got the "schedule" done yet. - need more reading. My experinces with lights of this caliber is minimaul. My ELos 70 has 2 AI SOl so i know the power of leds. I went with the vertex bc i wanted the "uv" spectrum. Prob go off New Caledonia "sunrise/set" so prob 13 hrs of light with most of it being weak light then some BAM time

Filtration-
Sump comp 1- Skimmer zone- Using a SKimz Monster 161 skimmer ( i have a Vertex alpha 200 on order but they said it may be a while) and a BRS CArbon reactor on a small Sicce pump.
Sump comp 2 - zeovit reactor- Using a vertex RX-z 3
Sump comp 3 - frag zone and small refug (live rock and copepode farm!)

Flow-
Currently have 2 mp40s but idk if this will cut it the return is pretty strong but will prb need to be supplemented - mp60?
Misc
Return pump Sicce HF12 -
Dosers/OT- 3 1.1ml BRS dosers for alk calc and mag- and 1 50ml BRS doser for OT

I use a Apex to control everything

Coral- SPS only :)
Fish-
Angels- Empour and Regal !! going to give it a shot with angels and sps
Tangs- black or sohal
wrasses- really want some Psych heads buttttttt we are know the risk in that so we shall see

not sure on all the zeovit supplements yet

all we need to do is plumb then tank is up and ready

And would like to thank all those before me that have given info and awesome ideas (jbanks, v1rotate, crzy4aros, dog boy dave, reefbum, dvanacker, reef noob etc:)

and we have a Brinno time lapse camrea set up

I gotcha. I'm running the Warner Marine MF-121 which is very similar to the Skimz, and I am considering the Vertex Omega as an upgrade.

Looking good. One area for improvement, offset your main aquascape feature to the left or right. Features that are dead set in the middle look fabricated.

Finally! You never mentioned Sohal! I may start taking bets on the final fish list. lol

So happy for you getting to set this up the way you want to. I predict this thread will be split one day. ;)

Thanks guys!
Plan on doing the plumbing wed/thurs then cycle time -
Blakers- yeah dude it changed every time I play online eeek! Sohal prob to aggressive

Hello Shawn,
The tank's coming up great...
Looks like a nice spot you have setup the tank...looks like a show piece in a museum...Nice!
Um did you mention my name as an inspiration or is there another reef noob? If it was me then it's an honour and thanks for that.
Could ya please post some more details about your LED system?
Time lapse videos are always awesome

Good Luck!

Thanks guy for all the love- plenty more to come i promise

E.intheC- All the vertex stuff i owen is amazing - i am sure the omega is a good product for its price point

Leveldrummer- I used small sharpe metal rods that come in "nutcracker" kits- lol got them at walmart - i am sure they have a more accurate name. then i drilled out a pilot hole and hammered them in. then i used a small amount of reef expoy by 2 litttle fishs to hold every thing in place- its a pretty big open space its open for 18 inch long and 15 tall. I have pics and such if u need more info- it just like legos for adults- my rule was get a beer and start working on it when i got done with my 3 beer its time to stop. It wasnt to bad to find rocks that almost fit then i would hammer off whatever peice i didnt like.
took about 12 beers over a week or so

Reef noob- I am so talking about you :P, your build is awesome and a inspiration. you and V1 is the reason i am going zeovit.
so thank you sir
LEds- they are pretty awesome thus far- there is 16 leds per pad (8 white @7000k, 4 royal blue 470 nm, and 4 blue @ 450nm for a total of 128 leds.
here is more nerd details if you wanna

I went with this light bc it has the abilitty to add pads such as i have added UV pads which is a awesome color spectrum for coral. BRS also has lots of info on them. I have had anything under them yet sooooooo i dont wanna jenks my self :) they have a pretty awesome program with them.

sorry for the typing this is via iPHone :)

Blakers and I are plumning this beast wed/thurs so hopefully water come sunday

I will keep posting--
Please ask anything!

Thanks bro!!
Glad my lil Reefing effort has given you some pointers.
Thanks a lot for the kind words too.
Now I gotta show this "mention" to my wife...:lol2: Now she will realize my reef is important and has to be given more respect lol :D
Booooyah....I can imagine the look on her face...

Things looking good bro. Cool lights. Vertex skimmers I presume are OEM by Bubble King and will sure won't disappoint.
