57 DB Rimless build

I would say that the solution is to get a bigger tank, but no, it really isn't lol.

A 40br should serve well as a sump. I will have to check back on your progress.

Good luck

Hahahah yea next year I might do an upgrade. Just wanna get back into the hobby for now.

I am planning to have this tank wet in 2-3 weeks. We shall see

What do you plan on stocking?

Its going to be primarily an SPS system, some zoas, and some LPS. But mostly SPS. High end corals.

As far as fish, Im going to put in my pair of clowns. Im sure they are ready for a bigger home. They have been in a 13 gallon for awhile now.

Other thoughts are:

Mcneil/yellow assessor
Royal Gramma
Starry Blenny
Ruby Scooter blenny
And a few of the smaller species of fairy/flasher wrasses (Exquisite, carpenter, filamented, and possibly other. I have completed decided)

Being I have such a large skimmer it gives me the play room to have an fairly large fish list.

Not bad. Will you be using glass tops? I originally hated the look of em on the rimless tank, but it considerably keeps evaporation way down.

Keep the pictures coming.

No glass tops. I will be making a BRS screen top to keep the fish in. Its the only way I could live with rimless. Whats funny is Im not a fan of rimless cause my favorite fish are wrasses lol so its kind of ironic.

And I had sat and thought about my stock list and thought alot of little fish would be nice to have alot of movement. Oh....and I might throw in a barnacle blenny, even though Id rarely ever see him.

Trust me, pictures always come haha. Im such a picture whore. My other hobby is photography so Im very big on taking photos.

If you check out my previous build threads, youll see alot of photos

Putting the finish touches on the stand to be able to mount everything and put the plumbing into place.

First made a template of where the overflow is so the plumbing can drop down

Installed two support beams for the arms to hang the light. Just need to finish painting them

And two brand new bulkheads from BRS. The old ones were silicones in to death and one didnt have the nut and the other nut I was surprised it disnt crack the tank

Looks like a great build!! I love the DB rimless series! I have the 75 and can't think of a better setup for my needs! Looking forward to the progress...

Got home from work tonight and got an itch. Stand is dry, so i decided to put it together with what I have so far.

Sump in place

New bulkheads put installed. Need to clean off the old silicone a little more.

Tomorrow Im installing the drain and the pump should be here Friday.

So trying to finish this build and have it ready for filling up on Friday or Saturday. I got the arms to hang the light made and mounted today.

Full view of the tank as of today

And I got almost all the plumbing done. Just waiting for my pump to come in Firday to put it in and Ill be all set

Sorry if I missed it, but do you plan on leaving the back of your stand open?

I did this on my 57 and wish I hadnt. The amount of salt creep on the wall and floor is quite bothersome. If I ever move the tank I will be covering the back of the stand.

Yeah I am. I did on the last tank I had and it wasnt bad at all actually.

Well today was a long friggin day. But good news and bad news. Got up early....well couldnt really sleep cause I was excited to get it up and running. So I really didnt sleep.

So anyway. Mainly was waiting for my pump to come in so the return could be plumbed. I ordered a Sicce 3.0 from Jimi at ASF.

Installed a tru-union valve

Plumbing finished

Organized all the wires. Yes Im a little OCD lol

Picked up a few things from the store. 2 200w ViaAqua heaters, test kit, and other various things

This is the stuff I recommend to use in a QT to help keep it cycled and bacteria to thrive. Its only a few bucks. So I just throw this in the filter.

Got the aquascaping the way I think will work for me. I just didnt want it to look like a large pile of rocks. Ill say that is the downfall to this tank. The damn overflow is right dead venter. It makes it difficult to aquascape. But this is what I came up with

Filled up and running!!!! We have lift off!!!

Sump running. I need some eggcrate to light the skimmer up though. Too tired to go to the store again so maybe tomorrow. lol. Maybe not
