After upgrading from a 36 to a 75 not long ago I have decided to down grade to a 57. I've always wanted a rimless tank so this is what I ended up with. Like my other build I have decided to make my own stand, I worked on it throughout the week and this is what I have so far.

It's not shown in the pictures but I do have a center beam on the bottom of the frame to support the sump.

Thoughts, comments and suggestions are welcome.

Is your tank that deep? Looks like a nice footprint. As far as some CC, I'm kinda OCD but taking a router with a flush trim bit around there will do wonders. That'd how I did my stand. I used my frame as the guide. I'll be posting pics on my thread soon if photobucket will let me upload them.

No it's not. The tank is only 36x18x20. I built the stand bigger to have a rim around the tank. And to try and fit everything inside the stand. I don't want a canopy. I don't own a router but I do have a dremel with the type of bit you are talking about.

Made some progress today. I couldn't do what you suggested rovster since I have no router and the one for my dremel wasn't doing it so I tried to make the opening better with a jigsaw, I don't think it came out too bad. It's not perfect but that's what doors are for.

57g Rimless Build

Did some painting yesterday. I did black with a blue-grey slate for the trim. I forgot to take a picture of it finished but here is on from when I started

I think in going to leave it at just one coat for the black so I can still see the wood grain. I also painted the back of the tank.

Last night I did the transfer i stayed up pretty late because I had a small leak in my PVC and I needed to glue to dry. But this morning everything is still alive couldn't be happier.

Chris I'm also looking into getting the same tank. Can you give us the details on what equipment your using? Ex lighting and filtration

My return pump is a mag 9.5 which I think is a bit too strong but that's why I put a ball valve on it and it also feeds my refugium in sump. I have an rw8 for my powerhead which is 100% too stron so I'm trying to trade for an rw4 or I may buy the converter box to give less volts to the pump to make it weaker. Skimmer is a reef octopus 1000int I was using that on my 75 so it's a tad oversized for a 57 but it fits fine so why not keep it. I'm using ledzeal lights I believe my model is malibu s120. There's a great thread on this forum if you want to read up on it.

Quick update..

I got rid of my yellow tang and flame angel, I replaced them with a carpenters wrasse. I'm debating on getting another wrasse but we will see what happens. I also made a DIY screen top so no fish can jump out and added a DIY CPU fan to help with cooling. For some reason my tank temp can get up to 81F with the fan it keeps it around 79F and the heater is set for 78 and on a ranco controller. I finally put doors on, nothing special just solid black with knobs to match the color of the trim.

Gotta say the fish have been model citizens in my tank. That is if your the one who gave them to me. And if you are. Thanks
