Ok.......we got approached by a new local real estate developer who will be building a 31floor High Luxury condominium, to build his dream project by creating a Coral reef inside his swimming pool which will be build on the 31st floor of the building.
So we would like to create a thread here to collect all combined knowledge to build many presume impossible build of creating a 6-7000Gl aquarium inside his swimming pool.
The concept he would like to see is to build an aquarium along one of the walls of his swimming pool which will be 25m long separated by a large acrylic sheet.
The idea of this thread here is to get to find all challenges faced and how we can tackle them if they can be tackled. As for the challenge of the acrylic sheet we are set good as Acrylic will be delivered by Reynolds Polymers which is the worlds largest producer of acrylic aquarium sheets so I trust their engineers on how to install and calculate what will be required.

Here a quick 3D rendering of what the Architect designed for the developer after the first wishes expressed by them.

with this they came to us for our expertise on how we could make this project a possibility as they as Architect design studio have no knowledge of aquarium design and build.

Challendes faced here for sure will be the following ....

- Sunlight as this set up will be build on the top floor so in full daylight exposure.
- Temperature control see same reason above and being build into a swimming pool and I am sure they will not want their entire swimming pool cooled down to the required temp for aquarium.
- Complete separation of the 2 worlds chlorine or any other form of cross contamination being avoided at all times.
- size of the project being build and maintained on the 31st floor.

please do add all the other challenges you guys see and in the next few posts we will discuss on how we and you guys see on how to deal with those....

for filtration a 49M2 (527Ft2) room is provided which will need to be shared for swimming pool filtration as well but we believe the area is ample big to create sufficient and efficient filtration.

maybe a second layer of acrylic (one for the pool to see through, another being the actual tank). Pretty much the tank butting up to the pool. That way the aquarium temp wont really me influenced by the pool and less chance for water to get into tank incase of a seam leak.

I would also say if pool and tank equipment are in same room then put up some kind of separation, like a wall..... this jumps out to me big time. An accident will happen like chemical mix up....

and I am sure they will not want their entire swimming pool cooled down to the required temp for aquarium.
Then you should tell them that this project can not happen. You want to make a coral reef but not keep it at coral reef temperatures? You're wasting your money trying to make that happen, we see what a few degrees of ocean current does to reefs.

The only possible way around this is to make a completely fake coral reef, fish might be able to adapter to higher temperatures, but corals won't. Another option is to have a big acrylic panel that isolates the swimming pool from the reef, but if you're going to go this route it really makes no sense to do it next to the pool, you could literally have a big tank anywhere.

Is 26°C really cold for a pool?
