Well.....I really battled with the cyano and I don't know if it was the age of the tank or just bad di resin maybe both but. I do large water changes every two weeks don't miss even a day. I haven't messed with the lighting program just let it do its thing. I haven't even had to add any additives yet. I have the kalk dripper ready. I can do baking soda for Dkh, don't even own a calcium additive. Mine is anywhere from 460-435 at the low end as it comes up on the two weeks. I almost every day clean collection cup just because it works better clean. I am still debating adding a anemone, I want a blue open brain as blue as I can find I also want some dendros. But since all of those need to be fed I want to make sure this phosphate problem is gone a little while longer. I also want a mandarin but still waiting on that. A clam probably at the year mark. More sps for sure.

Here is a question? I like to feel like I'm doing something with the tank all the time. Not really put my hands in it but testing, cleaning the sponge, glass, skimmer. I just finally got rid of my cyano on the sand bed and tank looks good to me. But should I experiment with vinegar dosing just because I would be doing something or how do you know when to carbon dose? Only when nitrates are too high and can't bring down through water changes. My nitrates are less then 5ppm

Unless there is a specific NEED for it, I wouldn't do it. You'd just be opening up your tank to a new set of potential problems for no reasonn

Agreed it is a need type of thing. You should read threads based on the type of coral you want to know more about.
