I am starting fresh with brand new everything.

Build consists of..
60 deep blue cube
Sicce 700 gph return
Skimz 121
Eshopps wd-100cs but not running as wetdry
Mp40wes
Radion gen 3
Reef link

What else should I consider for full blown sps?

a sump and refugium instead of the eshopps.

i assume you taking the bioballs out and replacing it with LR and maybe sand.

and probably want to consider your dosing for the future when youre ready......that is, make sure you have space and outlet(s)

heater(s)

custom stand.....

Yea I have a heater haha I forgot to mention that. No I wouldn't be running that chamber with bio balls. I was actually turning that section into the return and the larger section I was adding a filter sock and my skimmer. I was going to make a baffle there someway. I have already purchased the stand and the shop won't let me return it so I'm kind of stuck there. I thought about running a hang on back fuge.

if youre adding a baffle, why not drill a hole adn add the refugium in that way....just a thought.

a hang on back refugium, imo, will only disappont you. you'll always wish you had a bigger one. If you have not bought the eshopps, you can still get a diffferent sump\tank to go below and do refug\sump in one.

good luck, have fun.

I bought every bit of it at once here locally. That's a good idea to drill and make a fuge. Any links to someone who has one like that I could copy?

just start checking the build threads adn sump builds....off hand, i really dont, but you should have no problem plumbing it teed off your return and being gravity fed back to the return area.

FWIW there is no specific reason you need to have a fuge. If you want one thats fine, but there are a plethora of great SPS systems out there with no dedicated refugium.

As far as additional equipment.. maybe a couple of reactors for carbon, gfo, biopellets/zeovit. A controller for sure. i would probably do two mp10wes over one mp40wes. A system for dosing will be needed, Bubble magus makes a decent unit at a fair price. You will also definitely want an auto top off unit of some sort as well.

Fuges do very little in my opinion to assist with nitrate an phosphate reduction. It is a great place for copepods to grow but thats about it. I dont ahve a fuge and I can keep SPS just fine.

The biggest thing about SPS is lighting, semi low nutrients, and Calcium, Alk, and Mag.

I agree with this. I am in the process of removing my fuge right now. Well not removing it completely, but removing the sand and some LR. For me, it's a detritus trap and just something else to maintain.

I have a really simple 60 cube. No fuge, no reactors, no controller or any of that other stuff. The only missing piece of kit I plan on adding is a dosing pump for Ca and Alk. There are so many different ways to skin this cat.
