60 Gallon tank in room over garage.

I just got a tank and have not put water in it yet. I'm concerned with the weight being an issue because the floor in the room is on a slant and creeks on an adjacent wall. I actually had my wife jump in the room as I looked downstairs in the garage and could see the ceiling bow where she was jumping...not where the tank is set up, but by my desk....

Would it be recommended to put 2x4's under it, a different room all together, or get out of my head?!

Thanks all!

You are going to be putting 350+ Kg of weight in a small area, so you need to be confident your floor is sufficiently strong to bear this load. If you have access to the underfloor from the garage roof then you should be able to take a look and see what condition the structural members are in, and replace or add as needed.

If you are not comfortable to make this sort of assessment then get a licensed builder, or better yet a structural engineer to take a look and give you a recommendation of what needs fixing.

The slant should not be an issue as long as you pack under the legs on the low side with something durable and solid such as fibre-cement board. It it is quite large you may want to make a plywood based stand to provide a level base to then put the stand on. You will want the tank level or the uneven lines will annoy the tripe out of you.

Good luck!

Unless there is something massively wrong with your homes construction a 60G tank is never a problem. And most certainly not an issue up against a wall like that..

You are just overly cautious for no reason I'm sure..

Shim the stand as needed to keep the tank level and fill it up..

I had a 75 gallon in the 3rd floor of an apartment building that don’t allow them. It was gorgeous.
