I have to admit, they looked pretty small in there....lol

In a tank this size, do you think that the nitrogen cycle will be affected by damsels...to a noticable extent....

I,ve never dealt with a project of this magnitude, so im just curious.

Nope, but.......the sand is cycled and so is the rock. The small amount of waste from the damsels and from decay of the food will keep the cycle ticking along.

Besides.....i really wanted a fish in there.

Paul, where'd you find the yardright sand and was it the play sand, the multipurpose sand or the pool filter sand?

It was yardright playsand. I have had it for a couple of years, left over from my 225g. We did a group order a while back and split it out between us. Cant remember where it was from originally.

This weekend should see the new racks installed for the rock. The overflows connected to my old existing sump and a small return pump installed. Once running it will exchange around 100g/day and will mix the new saltwater in the 600g with the old water in the 225g. That way....all the corals will be acclimatized ready for the move over to the new tank.

heres how the first rack for the live rock turned out.

I used 3/4 inch pipe, the thick walled variety....a bunch of elbows (90 and 45) lots of "t"s and several crosses. Egg crate on the top and all tied together with black zip ties.

here you can see the base layer and the beginning of the top

with the top pipe work added

then the eggcrate cladding

in the tank:

next step....add the rock to this side.

the rack is 36 long and 26 deep. The first layer is 7 inches high and the second is 15 inches from the sand.

Very cool... I was thinking about doing something like that in my tank, but figured that I would just stick with rock as I didn't want to have to worry about seeing the PVC/Egg create...

ive already added some rock to this...it disappears very easily
