600 gallon tank

i have an crazy question

i just bougth a 600 gallon tank, but i would like to know can it go on the second floor in my house?
there is a wall rigth above the designated area
i calculated the whole thing its about 8700 pound

I don't think that's a good idea unless you added extra support below.

Call an engineer. Well worth the couple hundred bucks you might spend in doing it right the first time

Hey Bighen just joining your thread, I suggest the same thing as stlouisguy. I was wondering about the same thing because I have a 150g tank plus sump which ended up weighing about 2500 lbs. and thats on a second floor apartment. Alot of people said that it was ok on the second floor, but I went ahead and talk to an engineer about it anyways. And it is ok with that weight 2500 lbs.

You will need to put some jackpost for sure! my tank is on the second floor with a concrete floor too. i called an engineer and he told me that support would be needed. With a 48" high tank, thats a lot of weight for the area cover.

Big hen, your looking at around 435# per squre foot.. That's some kind of weight... You would need support under the tank.

What type of tank is it going to be???

Another thing how are you going to get to the bottom?? A 30" wide tank won't allow you to get inside. Also is it glass or acrylic??

What are you planning to keep? At 48" deep you will need 1000 watt halides..

Have you given any thought to the support equipment this system will need??
